Faulty new Bambino Upright v6.1 sample
Hello everybody,
I was just testing most of the new v6.x Nord Piano Library samples on my NS3C which were recently released on the official Nord website and all of them apart of the Bambino Upright seem to work fine and are certainly refined, especially the Studio Grand 2 which was already discussed in different posts. I have however came up to a problem with notes F6 and F#6 only playing a loud pop when playing fortissimo on the Large or XL Bambino Upright v6.1 (I think it is the case of the loudest sample of these two notes not working properly). Didn't try the Small and Medium size samples but I suppose that it's going to be the same when even the XL with all individual notes sampled has this issue. Has anyone else tried it and had the same experience or even already contacted Nord Technical Support?
I hope that I can save you guys some time and hassle when updating your Bambino Upright with a working fine v6.2 Large sample which can be found in the Piano 5 factory restore file or simply sticking with the old v5.4. Unfortunately no XL v6.x sample is available afaik, Medium size v6.2 can be found in Stage 4 factory restore file but I have no experience with that one...
And I am sorry that I can't attach any of these v6.2 working samples to this post because they are too big, but you can easily just download them in the Downloads section on the official Nord website, rename the corresponding factory restore file to a simple .zip file and there you go.
Have a nice day!

If you are loading an XL version of the Bambino onto your memory-challenged Nord, that is a big commit to that sample! I would be curious to know what you find useful or appealing about the Bambino over its fellow uprights. I ask that sincerely, and with the hope that your answer will not use the word "character."

Bambino, if not the best sampled piano on Nord Library is definately one the best. Very Upright sounding, intimate, full of life and all that singularities that these kind of spinet/piano of its size have. As well the Nordiska (baby).

I get what you mean — "character" is a word that encompasses so many aspects as to become meaningless when you're trying to understand specific qualities that seem to be eluding you.
What I personally like about it is that it has a bit of the endearing naïveté of a toy piano, without sounding or playing like a toy piano. Depending upon how it's played, it can function musically a bit like a music box, but it sounds like a piano. It's very much not a "great" or "big" piano with all the grandeur and majesty, but just a humble instrument doing the best it can.
There's a fragility and intimacy to it that makes it very useful for certain musical contexts. Like making an explicit point about it not being about the piano — sort of drawing attention to its inconspicuousness, maybe?
I'll also combine it with a "proper" upright sometimes, where it imbues those qualities to the sound, without making it less a "piano".
Does that explain a bit what people might mean by "Character"? Most of Nord's pianos work that way, to me. They almost all have some quality or personality that makes them more useful to particular musical expression than the "perfect ideal piano" that other manufacturers tend to strive for, only to give you absolutely horrific "honky-tonk" as the only alternative.

Please consider opening a support case with Nord. They don't have a presence here.jonilikeskeys wrote:Happens here, too!DaNDulin wrote:I have however came up to a problem with notes F6 and F#6 only playing a loud pop when playing fortissimo on the Large or XL Bambino Upright v6.1

The Bambino to me sounds like I’m playing somebody’s grandmother’s out-of-tune piano that was just dragged out of storage after having not seen the light of day in 15 years. Not worth it for me, but I can understand the appeal to those looking for something different.

Re: Faulty new Bambino Upright v6.1 sample
Yeah, I've loaded and unloaded it several times. I know it has a lot of fans, and it's a Baldwin (which is very nostalgic for we Americans, who grew up on them in the schools). But I can't get much practical use out of it in a full band setting, and when playing alone, the White or even the new Studio Grand 2 sound richer. And if I'm in the mood for a digitized upright piano, which isn't often, the Amber or even the Queen have more punch. I'm just curious who has the space to load XL versions of samples like the Bambino or the Baby, and what they would use those for. Performance? Private playing?

I actually love the 'character' of the bambino in a solo, just messing around at home type of setting. can't get into the baby... i liked the felt for about a day. but the bambino brings me to a very specific place... definitely a nostalgia type of thing. can't use it live, so it pops on and off the Nord every so often for me.
