I recently started rehearsing with a Mod Anthems tribute / covers band. The Electro 5d has the sounds but not the look. Some other similar bands use real Hammond's and Wurly's but I'm now too old to go through all that lugging again. Done all that the first time around and got the T shirt. So, I decided to build this stage prop, based on the Hammond M102 as used by The Small Faces in the early days, (also used on Whiter Shade of Pale). At first I had planned to build it to just sit around the Electro which sits on a X stand but once I started constructing it, I found it strong enough to hold the Electro. The dimensions (height, depth and angles) of the sides are exact but the length is 3" shorter, so it fits the 61 note Nord snugly. It also provides a slightly smaller footprint on stage and great for hiding all the spaghetti. I needed it to be able to be assembled and dismantled quickly but most importantly, be lightweight and able to lay flat in my VW Polo. I'll not go into all the details here but it's made from 2 hollow flush panel doors from B&Q (£24. each). I inserted cls into the cavity at the edges to give it more strength. The top and back panels are hinged together on the inside. The 3 sections bolt together in less than 3 minutes. It's solid as a rock, lightweight and a doddle to carry.
