Hi all,
I'm trying to decide which studio monitors will best compliment my Nord Stage 2
I want to "feel" the nord as an instrument, like playing a real piano
I have a small studio with acoustic treatment and a pair of bm6a which is my mixing/working monitors
My options currently are:
1. Yamaha HS8
2. Focal Alpha 80
3. Focal Alpha 65
4. Tannoy 802
Which would be best pairing with my Nord? Is it important to get 8'' monitors?
Thanks!
Eli

Re: Which studio monitors for my nord?
Unfortunately, it's not really possible to answer your question, as it's all about personal preference. You've picked an excellent set of monitors to choose from, and I'm sure any of them will sound great. Other people's opinions won't help you much here, simply because of personal taste. Unless you're in a position to try them all, then you're just going to have to pick one and try them out. Presumably you can return them if you're not happy and try again.
What I don't understand is, given that your current monitors are worth 2 - 3 times the replacements you're suggesting, why you'd want to replace them with much cheaper monitors in the first place? Money isn't everything, but when the price difference is double or triple, it's a pretty safe bet they're far better than your suggested replacements.

Re: Which studio monitors for my nord?
The thing is that I want monitors to be in front of me when I play, my mixing desk is to the right, and it's much less fun when playing this way
another thing that I found today is that they're probably too small for playing live, the volume is not enough, so I'll stick to an 8''

Ok. However I wouldn't advise using studio monitors for playing live, they're completely unsuitable. Check out the "Accessories and Amplification" section of the forum for some advice on speakers for live use.

I've heard Yamaha HS7 is the perfect pair of studio monitor.
I have HS5 myself, lacking a litle bass - but I've read that HS8 is a little too much- so go for 7
