Beyerdynamics. I have the DT-990 for studio listening (they're open back so watch out for mic bleed, but gorgeous soundstage), and use the DT-770 closed back for on-the-go or in noisier environments. They aren't very compact (they don't fold) but they feel amazing on your head for a long time and sound equally good. I A/B'd them against the Sennheiser HD series and strongly prefer both their sound and their comfort.

Sennheiser 598 (wow) and AKG K240 mkii (very good and great value).

Shure SE535 in ears. Used mainly for in ear monitoring in a Glam Rock touring show, but also top notch for private listening/practicing at home. Handy for travelling too as not as bulky as over ear headphones.

I just bought the Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO 250 Ohm - I can highly recommend these headphones.
Wonderful accurate sound, and very comfortable to wear for hours - works like a dream with my Nord Stage 2.

On my Yamaha Montage I need to press the volume a bit, but Nord does not have any problems with 250 ohm.

Anyone use a headphone under $100 to recommend? I want a simple fix for playing late nights at home, so I don’t interrupt others sleep. I have used Bose Wireless Bluetooth previously (wired to my Nord), and they were very satisfactory for the little use. They were old and I sold them.
I wouldn’t risk tweaking or creating sounds during these nighttime headphone sessions because I couldn’t trust the settings as they would sound different when I played them through speaker after.
I tried my wired Bose earplugs last night, and they wouldn’t pick up the horn sounds at all from my programs.
So, what I’m saying - I’d like to find some comparable headphones, if possible, in the least expensive range.

Any cheapos work to pick up the synths?

Hi folks,

In the meantime there‘s a new bluetooth protocols with low latency. Did anybody try headphones supporting that protocol?

Sony V6. The Sony ear pads wear out fairly quickly and will need to be replaced, but there are good 3rd party options that are actually much better than the Sony originals.

A couple of the models mentioned early in this thread still fall in the sub-$100 range, but barely.

I've enjoyed my Sony MDR-7500 for years. Extremely sturdy build, and their response is quite flat for this price range. The bass goes plenty deep without being boomy, and while the highs are slightly brighter than flat, they're not harsh. They are designed for professional studio and live sound use, after all.

They've been superseded by the MDR-7506. which has thousands of similar rave reviews at That Ubiquitous Online Retailer. This could be your bang-for-the-buck leader.

The issue with the 7506 is that it's a biIt harsh on the high end, suoer accurate to check a recording or a mix. It to play the Piano for a long period of time, I fell them a bit fatiguing.... Hen, that's why Imhave the HM-50 audio technica...
I'm tempted by the MH-70S but for sure, they are not in the Sub 100$ range....
