I started using IEM's myself and it improved my singing enormously now that I can hear what I and everybody else is doing.
But getting the band to even try it is like pulling teeth...
I'd have to buy all the stuff myself and put it on each of them to make it happen, and I don't have the funds for doing that. Specially since it's not at all given that they'd like it.

Being a hearing aid wearer (since birth) the IEM thing always appealed as I already have custom made ear moulds.

It was only when I discovered headphones that could directly link with my hearing aids that I discovered how good it could be. My church then switched to headphone monitors and I was immediately set up with custom IEMs.

I've moved churches now and my new church doesn't have a set up for IEMs and I'm not sure it has the budget for it either, but I'm going to see if there is a way I can set up my own IEMs simply with the available equipment as I know how good it has been for my playing and my hearing.

Licensed spectrum or something like that, which would make it more difficult to purchase or use in different venues?

Otherwise if You could get Your own transmitter that connects with Your hearing aids You just need an aux out from the mixer.
Then You could use it anywhere I guess - listening to music at home or whatever..

Same here.
The band’s not fussed one little bit about IEM’s.

I currently use a wired system - I have direct input to my hearing aids from a standard 3.5mm cable. Wireless would take it to the next level, but with NHS hearing aids you can't get bluetooth direct on the hearing aids and I don't have the £££ to buy my own.

I could potentially use a bluetooth/wireless signal chain and convert it back to a audio output for my 3.5mm cable. That might be worth looking into. Any ideas?

Bottom line, as a decent keys dude, I am now completely in the IEM camp. I run the FOH band mix. I hear everything through my decent IEMs, and -- just sayin' -- I don't want to go back. Yes, it obsoletes thousands of dollars of stage amplification.

All good. Consider it a crusade?

So, two questions:
To mix the band FOH and you in your IEM you use the mixer headphone output right? And dial in a bit more of you in it right? But how could you hear how the room react? Because you will hear only what goes out from the mixer out, not how it sounds in the room with its acoustic....

Aha, You're using wired IEM.
I am too - have a special cable in my band where I get the bass guitar signal out and the IEM signal in, so I just have the IEM's connected by the bass guitar jack.

So then the problem with the new church is that they don't have any free aux outputs that You can run your IEM's on..? Or what's the issue?
My IEM's I'm running from the usual aux outputs from the band mixer, same as the rest of the band gets their floor monitors out of. (But I've "liberated" 2 channels so I get a stereo mix - being able to pan others out slightly and have myself in center is amazing for clarity without raising the volume.)

There are plenty bluetooth transmitters that should work.
Just google "bluetooth transmitter" and You'll get an abundance of hits.
Add any bluetooth receiver with loose cords so You get the 3,5 output.
I'm not sure about reliability of such things, but at the price I'd risk to try it out...

bluetooth is absolutely not a viable option for any live stage environment. Its only usable for very short distances 5-10ft, generally has crappy bandwidth and is subject to plenty of interference and connection problems.

You're probably right, but if playing in very controlled environment (church) and being able to have transmitter close by I'd still give it a go.
Cheap-o solutions sometimes work, and have the benefit of not costing too much to try out.
And if it fails the equipment can probably find use at home for hifi or similar.

But I'm still curious about what the problem was in the new church with getting an IEM channel...
