Stereo cables to use for Nord Stage 3

Postby DeanoPiano » 19 May 2020, 17:50

Hi this is my first post to the Nord User Forum :)

I've just purchased a Focusrite 4i4 audio interface
and I was hoping if someone could help me with choosing
the best cables to record the Nord Stage 3 in stereo

how many or of what types of cables will I need etc?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

You just need 2 1/4” TS cables, connect output 1 and output 2 of the Nord Stage to input 1 and 2 (or input 3 and 4) of the Focusrite Interfaxe, configure your recording software to record these two inputs and you’re done

Both will work fine, but TRS is a balanced cable, TS is unbalanced. The outputs of the Nords are all unbalanced so using TRS cables would just be an unnecessary extra cost and would be redundant.

Can’t disagree - at the same time, that’s what people say about the price of Nord gear too...

I think you can get decent 10’ TS to TS 1/4” instrument cables for $8-15 USD. $104 does seem quite steep!

Makes perfect sense to me to use an $8 audio cable for a $3000 instrument. LOL Why not just play a Casio?

On a serious note. If you record the Nord or any quality board using the $8 cable, then record with the Mogami. Reverse phase on one of the tracks and listen to the difference. You will see (hear) the difference yourself.
