Spacestation

Postby ogunter » 17 Oct 2015, 15:40

Hello. I know there have been lots of posts about the Spacestation so I apologize if I am asking redundant question.
Does anyone know if you can use the subwoofer out to send an overall signal to the PA?
Or is it just useful for connection to sub-woofer. Perhaps a simple question but I am relatively new to sound reinforcement other than one's own amplifier. Thank you

It is a full range out, but not in stereo, just mono. So you can go to any PA, mixer, "front of house".

Hello, I have a question about the spacestation. If someone has an opinion, please answer to me.

I understand that the side speaker is the one which is responsible for the "stereo effect".
It projects a L-R sound, according to aspen's website.

The question is, if I send a mono signal to the spacestation, where L=R, what kind of sound would the side speaker project?
Is it correct that there would be no sound at all?

Much further, if I play a NS2 with a stereo piano sound with a mono effect -for example, let's say a rhodes with a JC amp effect- what would it sound like through the spacestation?
Would it sound like an ordinary mono amp?
Would this have sideffects on the volume or the dispertion of the sound?

Is there anyone who has an experience?
Thank you.

Can't tell you precisely what the individual speakers would do or not do, but as I understand it, without a stereo input signal (where the left and right inputs are at least somewhat different), the "stereo effect " of the SS does not occur, so a stereo piano reduced to mono by a mono effect would have no stereo effect in the SS.

Hello RedLeo, thanks for the answer!

It is certain that the mono signal gives mono result.
Even in a traditional stereo system, a stereo piano with a mono signal would play as mono.

My question about the spacestation, is if the mono signal refers sideffects on the volume and the dispertion of the sound, given that the side speaker wouldn't play at all.

I must have misunderstood your question. I thought you were asking whether a mono input would produce a mono output or a stereo output.

Take for example this scenario:

Someone plays a stereo piano sample with his NS2.
The spacestation sounds perfect in a 300 degree dispersion (no doubt about that).

Then he enables the (mono) twin amplifier effect.
The side speaker stops, the volume is down, the dispersion is now about 60-70 degrees as on an ordinary speaker.

Anyone has had this experience?

are you sure the amp effect is mono and cancels all stereo, or is it just applied separately to each stereo channel, so it stays stereo?
If you put mono into the spacestation, there will be no 3D-effect. This does not make any sense. You can enhance your mono signal with a stereo reverb or other stereo effect, to take advantage of the SS.

I'm not sure how it works.
All I'm sure of is that if I enable the amp effect, the sound coming out of the keyboard is mono. I trust my ears and my decent set of studio monitors (yamaha hs-50 paired with the yamaha hs-10w subwoofer).

Mono signal means L=R. If the side speaker plays L-R then the result is zero (if L=R, then L-R=0). Does this make sense?

I don't think this is possible...

For the E5 owners (where all the effects are stereo), the spacestation is the best pair.
Trust me, I would very much like to have this amp, but maybe not before NS3... ;)
