I don't understand what you mean by stereo EPs -- Rhodes, Wurly, and Clav are all mono instruments, just like electric guitar. (The stereo tremolo sound of a suitcase Rhodes is a stereo effect added to a mono signal.) So the samples are pure mono, on the Nord just like in real life.

If you want a stereo EP, you need to apply a mono in/stereo out effect, which you can already do on the Nord. So I think this is a solved problem.

Now, the amp sim converting stereo to mono is a separate issue. I don't have a NS2, so I don't know if the amp sim is placed before or after the other stereo effects. If you apply a stereo chorus to an EP, and also an amp sim, is the stereo chorus converted back to mono? That would be annoying.

I also don't know without trying it if the stereo reverb will convert a mono signal to stereo, or will just apply reverb to the left and right channels individually, leaving the mono signal as mono. In the latter case, it won't help to activate the side speaker of the SS. But a ping-pong delay with a short delay time will work to activate the side speaker, so I would suggest using that instead.

Dear Simonkeys,
thank you for your answer.

The fact that the original instruments are mono is irrelevant in our case.
We own digital keyboards, plug in stereo jacks and send stereo signals, simply because we can do better nowadays.

Yamaha cp-70 and cp-80 were mono as well. That didn't stop them to make a stereo sample out of it.
Acoustic pianos are not mono, neither stereo. They 're just... acoustic! They make stereo samples there, too.
The new nord sample library is full of solo monophonic instruments which are stereo sampled.

I 'm a huge nord fan.
I own a NS2 and have owned a NE3 and a NW in the past.

Apart from that, there is a simple truth here.
Which is it?
For the first time in the history of music technology there is a nice keyboard amp, the SS, that we NS2 owners can't use.

And apparently it's our fault...

The lack of logic here is just ridiculous. Of course you can use your Stage 2 with a SS. And you'll get stereo sound with stereo inputs and mono sound with mono inputs EXACTLY THE SAME AS WITH YOUR CURRENT STEREO SYSTEM. You've never complained about that, but suddenly it's a big problem and everybody needs to feel your wrath, because you want to try a different keyboard amp and you've discovered it works on the same exactly the same principles as everything else.

I'm definitely not facepalming here...

more pedantic musings from Pablo:

This past Friday night I took a pickup gig, filling in for a missing bass player. The kbd player had a new Kronos 61 on top, a Krome on bottom and some other thing in the middle of his three tier rig, Yamaha I think. And the horns he was playing on his Kronos were superfat and lush and drooly. In other words, they didn't sound anything at all like real horns. Among other things, Nord specializes in real sound. In metaphoric terms, there's a local chicken restaurant which serves AWESOME grilled chicken, but the thing I like about them the best is that they obviously use REAL chickens of normal size instead of birds which have been so thoroughly pumped with steroids and antibiotics and lord knows what other drugs/substances that they are the size of small turkeys. The people who raise these freakish looking birds think that they do this "simply because we can do better nowadays," but some folks do not recognize this unnatural state of affairs as an improvement over the real, natural thing. Those who prefer one or the other are best advised to visit one or the other accordingly. But I wouldn't try asking the one chef to change to the other way -- they have very sharp knives back there...

I agree that it is a wild overstatement to say that the SS cannot be used with an NS2. Seems to work just fine for me and I hear from plenty of others who agree. If I understand correctly, you don't have one, so I really don't see how you can be so adamant about your opinion on this.

Bless,

Pablo

@Pablo. Sorry, I kind of zoned out at "AWESOME grilled chicken". I'm a sucker for American food, and my annual Christmas visit to LA is still two months away...mmm....burgers...barbequed ribs...

for reference, I'm talking about Pollo Tropical, with several locations in Florida, but none in LA I'm fairly certain.

Dear Red Leo,
You were offended by the emoticon I used, but you 're the one who is ironic and rude.
I don't mind. Keep going.

Just, please, don't act as you cant understand what I'm talking about here.
My current stereo system either by receiving mono or stereo signal plays equaly loud and it disperse the sound in the same area.
The SS mutes the side speaker and loses the wide dispersion. So, IT'S NOT THE SAME!

Dear Pablo,
Are you comparing a stereo EP sample with a chicken full of steroids?
Wow...

I 'm done with this conversation.

I understand perfectly well. It's clearly an issue you have with the SS. So go talk to them about it. Nothing to do with Nord or the users on this forum. Your anger is misplaced.

And if you're angered by a little mild humor, might I suggest the problem is yours.

Aren't we all.

There's this little book: "How To Win Friends And Influence People." Might be worth a look...

No, I was comparing Kronos horns to a chicken full of steroids. I thought that was clear. They were thick and fat and rich and glorious -- but they didn't sound at all like real horns. Some people like thick and fat and rich and glorious -- others prefer natural horns. Both choices have equal validity.

And I certainly don't see the need for anyone to be getting jacked up about this, or about much of anything else that happens in this forum. I was hoping that introducing a little non sequitur into the thread might avert attention from a growing argument and perhaps defuse tensions somewhat. As Lucy once said (to Charlie Brown? Linus?): "we had spaghetti three times last week."
