recording from nord via usb

Post by tambrose31 »

Hi,
I am new to trying to make the most basic of recordings. I have a nord electro 6 hp and want to record on to my samsung galaxy tab A 2019.I can use the tablet recorder but then it picks up extraneous noises. I have connected a cable form the nord usb to the galaxy usb portal and then tried to record but the standard app just defaults to the microphone. When I go into the app and withdraw permission for it to record from the mic, the app stops working. I am clearly missing something fundamental. Can anyone advise? Thanks

Indeed. I don't have any idea how you should be able to record with an android tablet in a very good quality. And haven't ever tried to.
Neither the built-in microphone nor USB should be viable. The microphone for sure will record noise, too. USB from a Nord doesn't deliver sound at all.
The next possibility would be to connect audio-out from your Nord to audio-in on the table, if your Tab A should provide headset functionality. Which won't be a great analog-digital transformation quality, either - but maybe would meet your expectations.
On a computer, the normal way would be audio-out of the Nord connected to a dedicated audio interface which forwards the sound via USB to the computer for a DAW or Audacity. Some interfaces may provide that functionality for iOS, too. But I never heard about a special audio interface for an Android tablet. Would probably cost more than your tablet.

Take a look at the USB-C to minijack adaptors with good DAC, for i.e. Shanling UA1

The Shanling UA1 seems to be interesting for me - but it's not mentioned that it will record sound. I find it being called a headphone amplifier, thus a D/A converter (only). Tambrose31 would need an A/D converter. Maybe there are others.
