Best Wah-Wah for Clavinet / Rhodes?
Hi folks,
I was wondering, please, what is considered to be the most suited (and affordable!) wah-wah pedal for a Fender Rhodes piano and a Hohner E7 Clavinet?
I had, 15 years ago, a 'Cry Baby' pedal and it was just awesome! However, I lost it and could never remember the model-number. I just recall it being a 'Jim Dunlop'.
I since purchased a 'Cry Baby Classic' (GCB-95F) and it just sounds utterly dreadful.
My older model had quite a lot of travel which was great, but the replacement I purchased has very little by comparison. However, size and build-quality are alike.
I have tested the 'Cry Baby Classic' (GCB-95F) though 3 different amps:
Roland Cube 30X
Fender DeVille Hot Rod
Yamaha DXR 10
As I say, the sound produced today is a far cry from that of my original pedal.
Many thanks for any kind assistance offered here . . .
Best,
Paul David Seaman (UK)

The Cry Baby works great for guitar, but I actually just use the Nord Wah effect (or Auto-Wah with the Control Pedal adjusting the range) with the Clavinet. Dunlop makes a "better" pedal that allows adjustment of the range (Dunlop 535Q Cry Baby 535Q Multi-wah Pedal - Black) that might be worth checking out. With the Stage 3 program viewer (nord-stage-forum-f3/ns3-program-viewer-t19939.html) you can take a look at how I set up the Wah effect for "Higher Ground" posted at post104176.html?hilit=Higher%20Ground#p104176.

I love this. Both velocity, and control pedal working together creating Wah-movement.
EDIT: not sure if it's possible on Electros tho...

Many thanks WannitBBBad,
The Cry Baby 535Q Multi-wah Pedal looks quite like the one I once owned. However, mine did not have any sweep-able freq. range dials whatsoever. It only had a PSU terminal and an on/off click-switch (like the 535Q).
In any event, most people do seem to favour Jim Dunlop. It's just a bit strange, and disappointing, that my current pedal sounds so duff.
Cheers.

Although I have no experience in wah pedals, I just read about the neccessity to tweak the standard Cry Babies by adjusting the built-in plate - which seems to shape the sound. Which you don't need to do with the 535Qs as they're tweakable without any screw driver.

Yes it is but I understand that monsterjazzlicks was looking for external specific Wha HW pedals (on which I have no direct experience to share unfortunately)

Re: Best Wah-Wah for Clavinet / Rhodes?
The question is in relation to actual HW models of a Fender Rhodes and Hohner Clavinet, to reiterate.

Thanks FZiegler,
I watched a couple of You Tube videos on it.
I'll probably just sell my current pedal on eBay as I have no use for it now.

Re: Best Wah-Wah for Clavinet / Rhodes?
I tried a bunch and stuck with the standard Vox wah.
I just realised that I never got to try the Fender Fuzz Wah, because both Clavs were lost in a building explosion before I had a chance to.
That might be interesting.
