Has anyone tried out the Nord sustain pedal? Is it worth it? I want something that reliable and I'm curious to what people are using? I might just get one of

Hello Danny,

I have this sustainpedal and though it is ok I was a bit dissapointed by the light weight of it. The chord attached to it also doesn't feel very sturdy. All this set to it's price.
For instance I have a pedal from Acorn (FP-2) wich costed around 15 euro's and it feels the same in quality but this is about half of the price of the Nord pedal.
Still the nice Red label on top of the pedal with 'Nord' on it looks nice on it. ;-)

Thank you for the reply! I play out a lot and I feel like having a solid sustain pedal is a must! My friend recently recommended me one that I can't get enough of. Curious if any of you have tried the top pick here, which is the DP-10. Thanks in advance!

I prefer the Nord pedal to my Kurzweil one for some reason. And better than a cheap one I also have in backup.

That said like Flozzy above pointed out its double the cost of generic pedals and i'm not sure its doubly better in performance. But the matching Nord sticker is always a bonus :)

Not sure what we're talking about. Are we talking about the stupidly expensive Nord Triple Pedal?

I'm now on my third one ...

The first two stopped working after a while. Maybe it was all the beer that got spilled on them, or perhaps it was that time we played on the beach and sand got into everything? No, maybe it was the time there was a fire at the venue, we had to leave our gear behind and the fire fighters sprayed water on everything ...

I'm not going to blame the pedals for that, but they're more sensitive to environment than your bog standard piano pedal.

The piano material I play now doesn't require three pedals, one is fine thanks. I have a nice acoustic grand to practice my pedaling technique as needed. I just don't need three pedals for live gigs.

Yamaha for me, and I don't cry when one breaks. Which never, ever happens.
I think I have gear issues ....

Of the mentioned options I do have the Yamaha FC5, still my first one in use which must have an age of around 20 years now. I once had a loose cable scratching but a friend of mine has shortened it by ca. 5 cm and it works on and on. For my NE5 I have the Roland DP-10 which also must be at least 10, 12 years old now and still works as if it was new. Some few times I use a second Yamaha FC5 with the nord - only when I don't need the piano-feel - which has been my "backup" for many years now but never got necessary. As far as the nord pedal is concerned I doubt that nord makes it themselves, so there could well be a bespeco or fatar or whatever product under the label. Might sure be perfect, but for me this doesn't make the point to prefer it. Sunny regards from Germany.

I have the Nord pedal that came with the NS2. It is fine, and cheaper than the Yamaha FC4 (and FC4A, which I think it is a newer model).
I believe it is made by Fatar who have a very similar model VFP1-25 (which in addition I think it has a "polarity" switch).
Yamaha FC5 (which I also have) is fine, but not "piano like" at all and both the spring resistance and the pedal travel is much less than the Nord or Yamaha ones.
There is nothing wrong with the cable of the Nord pedal, actually it has a shorter plug handle than the Yamaha which I think it is better than the long one of the Yamahas.
I think all sustain pedals should come with angled plugs (but they don't).
