Nord Piano Monitors as regular monitors?

Post by ThisIsJay »

Hi there,

so I own the Nord Piano Monitors V2 and was wondering if I could use them as regular/studio monitors as well?

Thanks! :D

For recording I would say no they are designed for piano sounds and a aux input for backtracks from your laptop or phone. If you just want to play music for casual listening then should work fine.

I have no experience with the nord monitors, but wouldn’t “designed for piano sounds” just mean neutral, full range amplification?

As to how well they do that, I have no idea, but isn’t that the concept?

Even Nord says what I did...

Speaker systems can be full range and still tuned for a specific use. Just go to a pro audio shop and listen to monitors they all will claim to be full range, but they all sound different. Full range is means what, 20 to 20K or do they go lower and more important higher. Sounds above the human hearing range affect the sounds down in the human range. Full range is just a general marketing term.

Speaking of “moarketing,” of course Nord says their piano monitor is “tuned” for their pianos. But wouldn’t said “tuning” ideally result in an accurate amplification of the signal they’re fed?

If their pianos needed additional shaping and coloration, why wouldn’t it be part of the sound to start with?
