Hi all,
Since getting my Nord 3 I've been disappointed by the piano sounds. I think this is because I play acoustic pianos a lot and you get a more immersive sound through the sound board. So at moment I've got 2 front facing monitors (MAudio BX8) for L and R. I've got an old battered amp - an Optimus something which Ive got now coming out of Nord Ch 3. Because its old, I dont think the amp is working well, speakers buzzing when you get anywhere near to half volume. So what is the best way forward - 2 more monitors going behind me for a fuller sound coming out of Nord Ch 3 and 4 - but then lots of plugs and expense etc. OR - replace the amp (cos Ive got the speakers anyhow).
What do ppl think?
Thanks Pete

Re: Nord 3 amp query
I assume you intend to use this amplification for practice/playing in a home or studio environment. If this assumpition is incorrect, please supply a description or better still, pictures of your environment and wiring setup.
The most immersive sound solution is the Royal Grand 3D piano sample and a good set of headphones. At least, consider this as the benchmark by which you evaluate other solutions.
If you pursue a loudspeaker solution, remember that EVERY source, surface, and object in the room affects the sound.
The specifications of the BX8 appear adequate to the assumed application. Consider re-reading the BX8 manual.
I suggest:

I suggest:
- Starting with a left and right channel only (only two speakers to keep things simple).
- Check that both BX8's powered and operating correctly.
- Check that you get stereo outputs from the Nord (high notes dominate in the right channel).
- Check that the speaker wiring polarity is correct (so the sounds from the two speakers don't cancel each other out).
- Remember that Nords provide unbalanced (TR) output signals, so TR cables preferred (members report mixed success with TRS cables but the BX8 accepts either).
- Place the speakers at equal distances from your playing position, firing towards you. See the BX8 manual for more info.
- Elevate the speakers to near head-height.
- Experiment: adjust distances, angles of the speakers, positions in the room, distances of speakers from walls.
- If possible add floor or wall coverings if the sound is too bright or remove these if too dull. If not possible, adjust the Nord's equalizer to try to improve your sound.
- Trust your ears.
