I've had a Nord Piano 88, a Nord Stage 2 HA88 and now I own a Nord Stage 3 HA88.
The thing that always has been the same is my Nord Case 88. But that case has become worn down, especially the fabric between the wheels.

So I’m in need for a new case. I transport my NS3 about once a week in my own car of and I need to carry it down two staircases and up again.
My options seem to be:
- Nord 88 soft case (again), € 204,-
- Gator GTSA KEY88SL polyethylene hard case, € 272,-
- Gator GTSA KEY76 polyethylene hard case, € 272,- (fits as well according to the online 'Gator case advisor')
- SKB 3i-5616-tkbd polypropylene hard case, € 443,-

Any experiences or recommendations?

I'd recommend this case for you, I'd also recommend lining it using adhesive backed closed cell foam / plastezote foam. I absolutely love this case.

for reference it's a nanuk 995 and I'm sure you could get it fairly easily. the pull and carry handles are very comfortable to the hand compared to gator and SKB and this is lockable. very pleased with it.

...and welcome to the forum Lew. One of the best holidays ever had was driving from Llantwit Major to Rhyl ( off the regular tourist tracks) Absolutely magical country. Best - John - Far Northern Calif.

Do you believe this solid foam from Nanuk would suffice for the 19kg Stage 3 HA 88?

I'm including here measurements of the internal dimensions of the case against the dimensions of the stage 3 88 for you, also my method of case lining as the stock foam may not work as it's pick and pluck foam, rubbish for this application.

the 34mm measurement is the remaining space permitted between the two upper measurements.

foam requirements:


3mm thick foam: 1 of 1450mm x 500mm + 1 of 1600mm x 650mm
10mm thick foam: 2 of 1320mm x 110mm + 2 of 348mm x 110mm
2 of 1320mm x 38mm + 2 of 348mm x 38mm
20mm thick foam: 1 of 1300mm x 348mm
10mm thick foam: 1 of 1300mm x 348mm
5mm thick foam: 1 of 1300mm x 348mm

note regarding the case, you may have a slight tolerence issue to compensate for regarding the inner wheel castings but not that much to disturb the transport of the case. I would always custom line a case, it's something I've done over the years to ensure a snug fit, accessories can be stored, etc.

Regarding my comment on the nanuk 995. My new nord stage arrived friday, for this case. DO NOT BUY THIS CASE. The measurements may look fine, but be warned, the wheel inner profiles take off over 30mm and do not expect this to slide in with the leg stand brackets fitted, you will trash the cheek profiles of your stage 3 or piano series. I'm deeply sorry for this recommendation. I placed my trust in this case knowing the internal measurements on paper were just fine, sadly this case has now gone and I'm having to look for a peli 1770 which will be over-sized or consider the nord case but the issue there being I don't want to advertise what's in transit.

Once again, my sincerest apologies for this case recommendation. I was hoping this would have worked out, but it didn't.
