Mix k8.2 and k10.2?

Post by davesharma »

Hi all, I haven’t seen a similar question on the forum and read through the FAQs, but let me know if this has already been asked.

After many years I finally traded in my hefty keyboard amp for a used QSC k8.2 for my NP2, thanks to the suggestions on this forum, anticipating on getting a second speaker new for stereo. However, when combing through the used market in my area, I found a good deal on a single k10.2, which would save several hundred dollars. Are there differences between the k8.2 and k10.2 that would make using one of each a bad idea? or should I just suck it up and get another k8.2 new?

Thanks!

I can't comment about these speakers specifically, but depending on your usage, it might be fine. If the speakers aren't spaced symmetrically in reference to the listened and in the room, even identical speakers will not sound the same.

But of course, different speaker elements and enclosures will sound different, so this might be a questionable idea.

the K10 goes a FEW Hz lower in the bass range...the biggest difference you will hear is the coverage patter on the horn.

I use K8.2 to take advantage of the wide coverage of the HF as I am tall and stand up to play...is has a bigger sweet spot for folks who stand up.
