Re: Keys submixer suggestions
Well, yes and no...I'm lucky enough to have good friends who could help me with big truck so I put everything on the platform, I even don't have to tear down the stands with the 3 tier for the keyboards and when we do a gig, yes, we rent a little container....Or a big depending on what we have to bring to the gig, PA to bring or provided by the venue....But it's always in the city so, no road case...
On a side note, I'm suppose to go to the gym to work on my disabilities after my paragliding accident but I prefer to work on loading and unloading my stuff....I can tell you, very good exercise....1 hour 30 to set up everything ....But in the meantime, the rest of the band has to do the set up for the rest, sound check and so on so...Not necessarily a big deal....
But we play for 3/4 hours so it's worth the hassle ...In my two bands we don't want to play anymore for low paid gigs with super fast set up and tear down....We want to enjoy the day so, we take our time...But I agree, with my Classic Rock band, I decided to take only 2/3 keys max, just piano/organ and few samples but I don't want to be the "Sax/Trumpet/everything else" guy anymore....This is the risk when you bring too much...They ask you to be way more than just the keys player...

Re: Keys submixer suggestions
Update. I think I'll go for a Samson SM10. Functionally, this is a nice looking device with a bunch of routing options. So not only could I achieve my own local monitoring (wedge or headphones), I could use it to send a couple of different monitor mixes to other stage monitors for the rest of the band. Seems quite versatile. Anyone have experience with the SM10?

Re: Keys submixer suggestions
This looked good to me, as I liked the fact that the Monitor mix control was separate from the channel volume. After reading the manual, it appears that both the Monitor and EFX outputs are on a single physical jack. So, if I am not mistaken, to send a stereo mix to the FOH, you would need some sort of TRS splitter to separate the signals from the MON out on the mixer.
I am using the Ashly LX 308B now, and the sub outs are are two physical jacks, L and R.
Very nice mixer though.

Re: Keys submixer suggestions
Hi dj.
The Mon and EFX outs are separate jacks, in fact there are two Mon out jacks. As I read it, the SM10 outputs are:
- Main: back panel XLR pair and 1/4" pair. Each input channel has a level control for what's sent to Main
- Monitor: pre main fader, back panel stereo 1/4" single. Also a front panel mono 1/4" with its own master level control. Each input channel has a level control for what's sent to Mon
- EFX: post main fader, back panel stereo 1/4" single. Each input channel has a level control for what's sent to EFX
- Mix B: each channel has a toggle to send it to either Main or Mix B. As far as I can tell, the Mix B signal is only available on the headphone jack, when the source is set to Mix B
- Phones: source can be switched between Mon, EFX, Mix B, or main
So what I'm thinking is:
- send my keys out on the main to FOH, and on the monitor out
- take a rest of band mix (heavy on my vocals) in from a FOH Aux, and send it only to the monitor out
- set phones source to Mon and send that signal to my headphones or wedge
And I could also take another AUX signal from FOH, and send that only to the EFX out for stage wedges for the rest of the band. The pre/post fader thing shouldn't be a problem, as I'll set and forget the main fader on the SM10 anyway.
(thanks for the opportunity to type all that out, helps me to conceptualise the setup I'm targeting)

Re: Keys submixer suggestions
Correct, but they are both single jacks. For my needs, I need L/R sub outs to FOH. Having the MON, FX and MONO each on a single output jack won't work for my setup.

Hi dj, I leap frogged your post with an edit. But I see what you mean by single physical jack now

Re: Keys submixer suggestions
I’ve only just seen your original post. I currently use 3 keyboards and a rackmount synth also. I mix my keyboards to a couple of stereo outputs which I then send to the desk using a Behringer RX1602 Pro mixer. As the model number implies it’s got 16 inputs which are 8 for left out and 8 for right out. The mixer also has a third mono monitor output which I send to my back line keyboard amplifier. Works for me. It also means I can monitor my keyboard output levels using the mixers LED output meters so I can turn up the weaker sounds such as synth pads and Strings and turn down loud leads and Organs. This keeps me at the same level in the front of house Mix.

Re: Keys submixer suggestions
Damn, that Behringer RX1602 looks like quite a good straightforward option, I never came across that one in my research. I ordered the Samson SM10, but they're not in until the end of the month. It looks like the Behringers aren't in stock around here anyway, so I would have had to wait either way. The SM10 does have a couple of extra output routes, which I'll now have to use to justify not going for that Behringer!

Re: Keys submixer suggestions
Ok, I tried the berhinger 1602 at first but I was never able to get rid of a buzz and hum....This thing is not very well grounded or I don't know but whatever I did I always had this noise/hum....That's why I went to the Tascam...Ok, not the same price for sure, so, maybe it was my set up but to be honest, I had to return it...
