It’s time for me to refresh my cable stable.
So many choices out there... what brand do you use? Is length a factor?

Re: Instrument cables?
Klotz or Whirlwind are ones I use. Never failed or let me down. I would imagine that length may be a factor eventually, but no issues up to 20 feet. Cheap cables are a false economy and increase the risk of noise or failure and let's be honest,it's a small investment compared to our Nords. Also avoid black if possible, as your guitarist will steal them! (Red works!)
Also look after them by never rolling them into a bow-It's bad for the cable internals apparently.

Re: Instrument cables?
Cable length should not affect sound quality like it can do on passive guitar and bass.
Buy something good. Specially avoid known brands cheap-o cables - they are often worse crap than no-name cheap-o stuff.
Not-too-cheap big brand cables (specially pure cable brands) are really worth it, since they can provide years and years of use without breaking apart on You.
Cheaper ones are easily stripped if they snag on something semi-sharp, and the connectors break over very little abuse.

Re: Instrument cables?
I use and have used Hosa’s more quality cables (red/yellow or red/black ends) for years now and had no issues.

Re: Instrument cables?
Also, I don't know about you but I use stereo-pair cables (zip cord, two bonded instrument cables in the same jacket) - makes it much easier to coil and manage, and less chance the guitarist or house tech will confuse them for their own cables. Using a little Dymo labeler makes it easy to put a coloured flag on my cables with my name on them so that almost eliminates the chances of accidental misplacement. This is a great thing for those detachable IEC power cords too since nearly everybody on stage with anything powered has at least one of them.

Re: Instrument cables?
Just Check if the shield is braided instead of just "spiral", the cable will be way more efficient in rejecting noise and "cracks", etc.... I use mainly Yorkville cable, even the standard ones are great and lifetime warranty. I use also.the dignilex, both carried by the two stores I have in Winnipeg and they are very good, they don't carry crappy cheap cables anyway....
The 3rd type of cable I use is Rattlesnake cables, awesome, of course for guitar but for all the other utilization....
Don't expect to pay less that 30$ for 15/20' if you want good quality, 40 CAN$ for me....
Or you build them alone, I did that for a pedalboard and used Maogami bulk cables and Neutrix or Switchcraft plugs, I used also Amphenol plugs...
That's it
Sincerely

Yes, I make my own cables using Sommer SC Stage 22 Highflex cable and Amphenol plugs.
I’ve also made up a four cable 5m jack to jack loom for two stereo boards held together with spiral wrap.
As there’s eight plugs, I use Rean slim plastic 1/4” ones for this rather than the larger Neutriks.

Re: Instrument cables?
I have found the Monoprice cables to be a great cable at a great price. I was a little suspicious because they are so much less expensive than the Monster brand, but they are indeed exceptional. We have also used Planet Waves cables that you assemble yourself for 1/4" custom lengths and have never had a failure in five years of use.

Re: Instrument cables?
I go cheap, but not too cheap. There are those that obsess over this sort of stuff, I'm not one of them. Sure, I'll obsess over other stuff, just not cables. Lots of good choices on Amazon. Bulk packs are also a good deal. Not many of them fail, so not a major concern in my gear habits.
I think I have gear issues ....
