At least this matches Patschi's measurements.

Wow, this is really impressive.
I certainly had physics but I have to admit I'm not very familiar with formulas any more.

"It's a shame" was my first reaction to this conclusion! All the more so as it would have been easy to replace the resistor ladder with a potentiometer while retaining the single TRS jack/cable for the triple function. A triple pedal version exists in FATAR's catalog where the right pedal has continuous (potentiometer) action.

However, designers at Clavia may have thought that:
    - a multiswitch solution is more reliable than a potentiometer one (witness the problems with the Korg DS-1H :thumbdown: )
    - 5 sustain positions are musically more than enough, i.e. practically indistinguishable from a continuous one :roll:

So, is there any modification that you guys can think up to turn a single pedal into one capable of Nord Triple Pedal-style half-pedaling/pedal noise?

How hard would it be to mod one of them into that? Additionally, does the sustain part of the Nord TP work for any other keyboard? (I.e., if any mod was done, does that make it a dedicated pedal for Nord now?)

@Red Moon,
It could be done, but it all depends on how much your time is valued at.
As far as I know this type of mod would only be functional with the Nord Stage 2 and Nord Piano.

To all,
I've been watching this thread with great interest, thanks for breaking down the mystery of the NTP for us.
The Sustain pedal appears to be velocity sensitive as well, with early, and late making contacts (probably for the stomp feature).
I think a couple of the interpretations of the 4 digit SMD resistor values are incorrect.
I have:
R1= 2K (2001)
R2=4.7K (4701)
R3=10.2K (1022)
R4=820 (8200)
R5=10K (1002)
R6=5.6K (5601)

I believe that the NTP could develop issues related to the membrane switches fouling due to debris.
If the keyboards can get this, just think of how prevalent it would be in a device that normally sets on the ground (well, at least it would be easier to correct).

My schematic is almost complete, I'm just missing the contact wiring under the right pedal contacts (but that could be worked out in the breadboard stage).
Now, If I only had an NS2 :mrgreen:

Merry Christmas, Hanon :wave:

Hi there,
found this to get the pedal-dynamics cheaper:
http://www.fatar.com/pages/VFP3.htm
but the VFP3-D
Can someone sort out where to get it in Germany?
Couldn't find any dealer in the web

Regards!

Hello knopf_piano,
Welcome to the forums!

From the description :
"VFP3-D: Dynamic Control Pedal. Gold or Nichel finish commae. Rubber Contact open at rest on the central and left side and potentiometer control on the right side. Supplied with cable and stereo jack plug. Natural sigle box."

I'm not inclined to think that this is the same pedal as Nord's, since the Nord pedal doesn't have potentiometer control on the right side pedal.

Cheers,Hanon

Hi Hanon,

I think you are reading them upside down :)

2001 vs 1002
1022 vs 2201

Ashby Solutions used to make an adapter for the yamaha Fc-7 to reverse polarity. I'm not sure if that would be useful here.

Is that pedal for all keyboards? Does it support half pedaling?
