Hello everyone,
I have a big problem finding Headphones for my Nord Grand. Every Headphones i tested had a much too low Volume.
I already tested these ones:
Beyerdynamic DT 880 Edition / 32 ohm
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro / 32 ohm
Audiotechnica ATH-M40 X /35 ohm
The BDs had a really good sound but I had too max out all volume parameters on the Grand to get an okayish volume, but it was still too low for me.
Same with the Audeiotechnica, but i also didn't like the sound of them.
Now I'm thinking about to test the BD DT 880 with 80 ohms, but would be weird if they would get a bigger volume, or?
Would be great if anyone has some suggestions to solve this low headphone volume problem.
Thanks!

Re: Headphones for Nord Grand
Bought the low ohm variants of the Headphones especially for the use on the grand. Is it possible that the headphones output is too high, so that the low ohm headphones cut the volume?

Re: Headphones for Nord Grand
I've tried Royal Grand 3D with my Beyerdynamic DT-880 (600ohms) and a Violetric V200 high performance headphone amplifier and it sounds fantastic! I used the Nord headphone output to my amp.
I think you have to get a dedicated headphone amp (and good cables), for example those from Beyerdynamic:

https://europe.beyerdynamic.com/a-20.html
They are expensive but they make a difference and you can trust Beyerdynamic!

Re: Headphones for Nord Grand
Ooof, that's a lot of money for these amps. I'm wondering why noone else complains about low Volume over these Headphones plugged directly into the Headphones out

Re: Headphones for Nord Grand
I am using the Philips SHP9500 headphones for my Grand and don't have any volume related issues through the direct port connection...

Re: Headphones for Nord Grand
To answer two of your questions, I don't think that you need a headphone amp and I don't think that your headphones' electrical resistance (ohms) is too low. My Audeze SINE's (20 ohms) are plenty loud enough with my NG. So are my old Nakamichi SP-7's (45 ohms) and my $100 Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's (64 ohms). They also worked just fine with my NP3, NP4 and Roland VR-760. It's interesting to note that an article in Audio Advice says that "Several types of headphones on the market require a lot of power to play loud enough. These are normally of high impedance, above 100 ohms." https://www.audioadvice.com/videos-revi ... phone-amp/ Are you using a cheap (or old) headphone extension cord or headphone adapter? (It would be inexpensive and quick to buy and test a new one.) In addition, you could have a faulty headphone output jack on your NG, in which case almost any competent local electronic/audio shop should be able to replace it without sending your instrument anywhere. Also, I hate to ask you this, because I don't want to insult you, but are both your Master and Piano/Sample Synth levels turned up? (FWIW, I've made my share of boneheaded mistakes at least as bad.) Finally (this should probably be firstly), you should contact Nord Technical Support. Good luck.
Re: Headphones for Nord Grand
I guess your headphones impedance should be ok.
I have a pair Sennheiser HD650 that should be 300 ohm (?) and a pair off Shure SRH840 that are 80 ohm.
Both are working nicely on my mixer or on my Stage, but on my Crumar organ, the Sennheiser make very weak and distorted sound, so your headphones should work OK on your Grand, as they are all in the low ohm range.
As Lawman are writing, check if your adapter are OK ( if you are using one).

Re: Headphones for Nord Grand
Thanks for all your answers.
So, the headphones I'm using are brandnew (no old adapters etc.). With the DT-770 the volume is OK, when Master and Piano-Volume are cranked up to max. Wenn using the compressor (which produces a bad sound for the piano samples) i get more volume through the headphones AND when switching to the LIGHT Velocity setting in the PIano section it's even getting a little louder, but it's not comparable to listening to something through the headphones on my PC (no dedicated audiocard...).

Try a pair of Sony MDR-7506. I've been using them for 25 years (that pair finally just gave out) and they have good volume and studio quality monitoring sound with everything I have ever tried with them.
