Will this work in a near-standing setup? It looks like they wouldn’t be tall enough.

Good seat for 2 tier stand?

Postby smcelyea » 10 Feb 2018, 04:26

Yes. Standing is not a problem. The gas lifts come in different base heights. You can get that goes tall from a higher starting point depending on your need. If at a future time you don’t need one that goes as high and need one that is shorter than the lowest point on the one you initially bought, just get a shorter gas lift. The all fit the same and only cost around $45 to replace. .. Easy fix.
Just call the people and explain your situation. Most likely you will get the owner and design folks when you call. They are incredible for tech support.

Hi Guys,
I'm talking the time to thank smcelyea for his Soundseat advice. I'm lucky enough to have my association which take care of me for the past two years after my paragliding accident and they are going to give me funds to get one. I just have to talk to Lois to make sure which model will fit, to talk about dimensions but it will be the one with the reinforced backrest for sure....Not the cheapest but the shipping will be covered as well....I might have found the perfect solution for long period in front of my keys or in front of the computer to get rid of the back pain that comes with our specific position when we play. So, I haven't received it yet, but when I will have it, I will let you know my first feelings...
Thanks again smcelyea.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but has anyone here tried the Hercules KB200B?

There were some really cool options from the previous posters, but most of them are out of my budget. The Hercules is too, just not by quite as much.

I've been gigging with an On-Stage KT7800+ ($50 US) for the past five years, but I'm disappointed that the upholstery seams have begun failing.

Here's a link to the best stool I've ever had. Foldable, adjustable, comfortable, and priced reasonably.

Greetings!

I'm a larger person.
I too have been looking for seats/stools that were
comfortable, ergonomic and as best could be: height adjustable.
I was using a drum throne seat with 4 legs for years. The seat was comfortable, but too low for the keyboard
setup I use (2-3 tiered stands).

I happen to play in a few big bands and a bassist showed up with this:
https://www.costco.com/Alera-IL-Series-Folding-Stool-Black.product.100102194.html
I purchased it and have been using this stool for about 8 months now in all the bands I play in.
I thought it wouldn't last and I thought it would slide. NOPE! Been great.

Only concerns:
legs of this stool do not lock into place. So a piece of velcro to wrap around bottom bars holds
them nicely for transport. (REMEMBER: these DON'T lock, so if you're playing and need to move the stool a bit -
BE CAREFUL).
Top "seat" part, which folds out, has a tendency to fold out when your loading it in your STOCKED
vehicle.
GLUE the plastic cups that the stool legs have on them. They will eventually come off from movement.
Pretty good for the price.

I'll say it - there's something galumphy about a keyboardist sitting on their duff while the rest of the band (except the drummer) is standing. I say this as someone who is as lazy as anyone and loves to sit - but it's just not a good look up there on stage, unless you are Billy Joel or Sara Bareilles and playing a concert grand, leading the audience in song.

For the rest of us, banging out cover band chords on a crowded stage, sitting back there just looks dumpy and disengaged. Many of us are on the far side of 40 and that expanded waistline does us no favors in a seated position. The keyboardist already is the least interesting instrumentalist to watch during a performance, mostly because he or she can't be sprocketing around with a guitar or flailing away on the drumskins. Why make that even worse by hiding behind your console? Next thing you know you'll be checking texts.

So STAND UP, people, unless you are parked behind a B3 - and you're not, you are playing a NORD. It's tiring but exhilarating and you will be more into the groove, and your bandmates will feel more connected to you.
