Well, it's always more fun and adventurous this way :-)

I sometimes make my own to a very specific length, or with some strange combination of plugs that are not easily available.

Out of convenience, I also sometimes buy assembled cables to save time. You may be able to create a high quality cable yourself slightly cheaper, if you have a good source of cable and connectors, but certainly not always.

Best question ever! ;-)

"Specific reason" - yes!
Good reason - not really!

For a speaker cable, I bought the wrong plugs - the thick cable didn't fit, even while recommended by the dealer. Had to change into XL versions. So I had them, and couldn't return some of them. And was thinking about what to do with them.

My idea was this: When I do it myself, I know what I have. In fact, that idea ended not the way I meant to. But yes, I now do know what I have. And yes indeed, it was fun! But in the end it took me more than 4 episodes of a crime story (à 45 Min.), until it was as it had to - for only two cables. Plus a headache for falling while installing a supplementary lamp in the craft room. Plus asking some folks in a forum for help.

The only benefits I will have: The right length and 2x red, 2x black cable. Not really worth all the time. Would have helped a lot, if I could have tested out my sounds & set programs. Or rewrite some sheets/arrangements. Or get used to all the new pedals. There is plenty of work left unto the first gigs with my new NS3. I just had to solder my cables. My sort of prioritization.

Very nice words, though, baekgaard - thank you!
