Hi Folks
I have a Nord Piano 3 and a pair of Neumann KH120 monitors with a Neumann kh810 subwoofer.
The nord piano 3 has a left and right ts output.
The Neumann subwoofer requires balanced inputs from source input into xlr and outputs xlr to the kh120 monitors
At the moment I have 2x trs to xlr from the nord piano 3 into the Neumann kh810 and all the sound is directed to the kh120 and the subwoofer is not getting any of the low end, despite bass management set to active.
Is the trs to xls cable the problem?
How else should I set this up?

Re: Cable set up Nord Piano 3 and Neumann monitors and subwo
Not an expert, but any cabling problem would affect ALL frequencies, not just the low end.
Maybe the kh 810 is expecting a hotter input? If boosting the gain on the unit doesn't help, try using a small mixer to gain stage higher to the kh 810.

I think I have gear issues ....

Well, the Nord has unbalanced outputs. The TRS to XLR cable can't change that. A mixer may be the only way to boost the signal from the Nord.

You could also get a stereo DI box, then connect the two TS outputs of the instrument, and use XLR cables from the DI box to your speakers.

Re: Cable set up Nord Piano 3 and Neumann monitors and subwo
Thank you everybody for your replies.
So is the take away message from this is to first try source some ts to xlr cables and connect those to the subwoofer instead.
If that does not work buy a stereo DI box and use Ts output cable from nord to ts input cable in stereo DI box and then xlr output cables from DI box into xlr input on Neumann subwoofer and then xlr output from Neumann subwoofer to each xlr input on the kh120 monitors.
Ok well then that begs a new question
If I have to buy a DI box then which one is the best one that will minimally alter the piano sound and give the final result.
This is one hell of an expensive set up so I want to ensure that it sounds the best it can.

No. I would a pair of TS (mono) cables, connect those from instrument to stereo DI box (or a mixer) then from that (using XLR cables) to your speakers XLR inputs.
If you use a mixer, and you put each instrument signal in a different channel, then make sure that the 2 channels are in full opposite pan levels.

This is excellent advice, as you are essentially using a 7 channel system for only three channels-

Can't go wrong with Radial. Pricey though. If available in NZ, these are well regarded for the price http://orchid-electronics.co.uk/Dual_Micro_DI.htm

All the Radial products I've owned have been simply amazing. Pricey, but worth it. Buy once, buy right and all that.
