Bose F1 812 quick review

Postby cphollis » 18 Oct 2021, 01:23

Maybe you've seen these, and wondered -- how would my keys sound through something like that?

Answer: incredibly awesome. And incredibly impractical. The Bose F1 812 is 8 small, line-array type drivers with a 12" behind it, so a bit of both worlds. The compact line arrays are magical: all the upper harmonics are there, wide dispersion, etc. You can almost taste the sound.

I was testing out a new PA for my band, and ran my keys through a pair just for fun. Jeez, it was awesome. And the clarity of the sound is unlike what you can get from the usual QSCs, RCFs etc. All the harmonics were there. Maybe if I was playing in a concert hall and had to bring my own amplification. Way too big and bulky for most gigs -- but boy they were fun!
I think I have gear issues ....

I have a single RCF TT10 over a RCF 702 12" subwoofer. Incredible combination thanks to your recommendation!! I also have the new Bose Pro32/Sub2 which is pricey at $3,100. As far as dynamics and clarity I would say the two systems are equal. If anything the Bose needs EQ in the mids and highs where the TT10's are good to go out of the box flat from my mixer. Of course the Bose has the advantages of the column array format.
