Behringer fcb1010 and Stage 2 program change

Postby Lilalon » 12 Apr 2021, 22:55

Hello,
This is my first time posting on the forum.

I'd like to be able to change patches on my Stage 2 using a pedal/footswitch, however I'm aware that only the Stage 3 has a dedicated input for that.

I've found the MidiMouse, a dedicated footswitch that solves my purpose, though it's rather expensive for being a one-trick pony (in my budget).

Would the Behringer fcb1010 work straight with a MIDI cable, or would I need the MIDI Solutions Footswitch (or dual-footswitch) controller (for an extra £100 at least).
If so, why?

In an old forum post on here there was mention of using a separate keyboard (specifically the Korg M50-61) as a waterfall keyboard controller and program change controller. This sounds very promising, though the post was very old and I'm wondering if there have been any more modern advancements that are more economical budget-wise?

Many thanks!

you can plug the fcb1010 directly into any Nord using a MIDI cable. You don't need any other boxes.

However, weather the fcb1010 can implement Up/Down midi program changes is a different question, and one I don't know the answer to.

The MIDIMouse is specifically programmed to output incremental up or down program change codes ,the FCB would need a function/program mode that does the same increment/decriment program code to work the same way.

Right, the NS3 has a jack for up/down program change. Which is probably because there is no such thing as MIDI up/down program change, as far as I know.

Have a look into your NS2 manual for the MIDI implementation chart (in fact, it's only a table in the Nord manuals): I don't think, there is more than program change together with CC0 and CC32. Which means you can't toggle between programs, only address programs directly with their number.

Does the FCB1010 support that? Cf. post135165.html?hilit=fcb1010#p135165

Thanks for the replies. To add to my post, this is the old forum thread I was referencing.
nord-stage-forum-f3/sound-change-with-stage-2-t1645.html

It seems then that the Midi Solutions footswitch controller is the thing that does the actual program +1/-1, which neither the NS2 or the pedals do by themselves (other than the dedicated MIDI Mouse).

The only benefits of the FCB1010 I can see then are: 1. being able to send dedicated MIDI commands that are not natively available on the front of the NS2, and 2. accessing patches non-sequentially.

The MIDI Mouse seems to be the winner, based on its small footprint and overall lower price (in comparison to buying a footswitch controller + footswitch).
