Nord Stage EX Aftertouch question: adjustable?

Postby FlametopFred » 10 Jan 2017, 08:22

Hello
Love the Stage EX I've had for about a month.

I use Aftertouch. A lot.

Wondering if there is a way on the Stage EX to adjust this?
Some keyboards have a menu item for this ... basically the sensitivity

Maybe too much to hope for ... and certainly is okay as is. Just ...would be nice if tweakable :?

:thanks:

Hi Fred, no it is not, though it's not clear from your post whether you are talking about NS2EX or NSEX. You do have total control over Morph Range, though...

Is yours a 73, 76 or 88 model? Some folks seem to feel that on the SW action the AT is too easy to achieve max and on HA action to hard to achieve max. I haven't heard comment on HP NS2EX-76)

I have the NS2EX-76, and I think it takes too much AT pressure to kick in the vibrato, which is my main use for it. It would be great to see a system setting added to adjust the sensitivity.

I have a few follow-up notes.

First, seems like maybe the previous owner never, or hardly ever used the Aftertouch. Have noticed that the AT was stiff at first, but is gradually "warming up" or "softening up" a little.

To sure if that is normal for Fatar key beds?

Maybe my arms and wrists are developing new muscles and endurance.

Second, I HAVE NOTICED that AT is easier in the middle of the keyboard, then gets harder out towards the top or bottom notes. That also might be a simple factor of wear, not sure.

One thing I do wish the Nord KB Zones had was independent AT. I know Polyphonic AT is too much to ask for, but what would be amazingly helpful is, when I have AT on two zones, and I am playing left and right hand, that one AT pressure did not affect the program of the other.

Anyway, small gripes I know .... just little niggling things. I may just have to add a 2nd 88 note controller for what I want to do. Always set out to see how much "everything" I can handle on one keyboard.

The Nord comes damn close to being the single one keyboard I can take to just about any gig.

NS2 EX 76 User here,
I've been waiting for a while to look here where I can find the menu to alter the AT settings, only to find out there isn't any.
It's a complete joke they implemented something that doesn't have any actual practical use.
The force you need to apply to get the AT working is of a kind I only use when playing really hard 'stabs'-like things; where you wouldn't need AT to kick in.
Seems like this should be a reasonable thing to update in a firmware update.

I would not assume there is any way to do a software change that would make AT easier to trigger, it could well be a physical thing rather than a coding thing (i.e. the placement of the aftertouch strip, the force required to activate it). Software could make it *less* responsive by ignoring or scaling down certain data, but can't do anything with data it never receives in the first place.
