red stain used for Nord keyboards

Postby hand solo » 30 Jul 2012, 16:30

i have an old Moog i want to refinish the wood to match my Nords....since the Nord and Moog logos use the same script,
thought it would look extra cool !

have also bought used Nords with beat-up endblocks that could use a refin.

is the signature Nord red stain a secret recipe? pretty sure you can't buy it at the big box store.

has anybody else done this?

BTW, thanks to all here, especially Hanon, who contribute the cool sounds and samples!

Hi,

I don't have an answer for you, but I believe I saw a thread here where the stain color was discussed. You might want to do a search or two if you haven't already.

Stores where you can have paint colors mixed (like for redecorating your home) or shops that do car repairs (dents, new paintjobs, etc) might be able to mix the right color paint for you but then you might need to bring your Nord. Alternatively, try to get a hold of a pantone color swatch (maybe some shop will lend you one?) and figure out which standard color is most like the color of your Nord.

You might have a problem getting the red "light" enough. My old D had quite dark wood. If you had stripped it and dyed it, it would have been too dark.

Hi HS,

i paid a LOT of money for the E7 my friend !! And i have never gigged it ever !! i had it mini-serviced a couple of years ago and the restorer said it was the best looking and sounding one he had ever seen !! i put it thru a Crybaby Wah Wah and a Fender DeVille amp. Sits nicely on my Rhodes !!

i have dreamed of owning a Minimoog for about 20 x years !! i have never even seen one in the flesh before.

i payed just over £600 for the E7 off ebay and it was a ferociuos bidding war down to the very last second. i don't even think i have seen one on ebay since. i drove 3 x hours to pick it up and paid cash. i thought the seller would have knocked me the odd 75p off the price tag but he took it !!

Do you like in the UK mate ??
