Re: Nord Stage 2 organ section upgrade
They released a software update that allows the rotary speaker speed parameters to be changed. That seems to imply that the organ is implemented in software.
The NS2 also has six identical FreeScale DSP chips. I can't identify, based on the datasheet and user manual, whether the ROM for that chip can be burned by the customer (i.e. Clavia), and if so, if it is some sort of EEPROM which can be reprogrammed in the field (i.e. via an OS update).
If you look at the OS X update package, there's a file "os.cab" that contains the OS image. It doesn't look encrypted in a hex editor, and you can probably (at your own risk) feed it to a disassembler; the ColdFire instruction set is basically 68k, which suggests this toolchain. Having a look at the assembly code that drives the NS2 may give you an idea of how much code is included with the distributed OS.
Finally, they released OS 2.0 for the C2 which changes how the rotary works. We can pretty safely assume that if the C2 can be reprogrammed with an OS update, then so can the Stage 2. It's just a matter of whether Clavia decides to (or if someone gets far enough with the reverse engineering that they find the rotary speaker routine from the C2 OS and port it to the NS2
).
Also kids, OS v1.60 JUST came out. I would not expect another OS upgrade for a good long while.

Re: Nord Stage 2 organ section upgrade
Well, if the NS2 organ does get an update, you can bet NE3 owner's will be banging on Clavia's door soon after!
I might even consider trading in my NE3 for a NS2 compact.

Re: Nord Stage 2 organ section upgrade
As we speak, the flagship stands for extra memory with the arrival of Electro 3HP, Electro 4d and Nord C2D. The C2 upgrade was very important to C2 owners...I think the NS2 owners want the same thing....

Nord Stage 2 organ section upgrade
Burningkeys wrote:It must be possible. The C2 was developed and released before the NS2 and why would they give the C2 more memory than the NS2. As you all said... they using the same organ section. Let's hope for the 2.0 OS!!
jepp!

Re: Nord Stage 2 organ section upgrade
Hello friends, I must disappoint you. The answer to our question
Hi Uwe
I am sorry, but such an update to the Nord Stage 2 is not possible. These organ related things will not "fit" in the hardware, together with all the other things that are present in the NS2.
Best regards,
Tomas Johansson

too bad. but otherwise we enjoyed a very good support in my opinion.
