I had the chance to play one in my local store and it simply blew me away! I had to buy it!
Especially the organ section. The percussion is much smoother, the key-click sounds so much more authentic, not to speak of the leakage and the scanner vibrato... The Leslie sounds much more real - especially the tube distortion is super smooth and it growls...
The pianos are the same of course. The action is a little bit stiffer than on the NS Compact but thats not a bad thing. The EQ section with the parametric mids is a real life saver when playing live.
The sampling section is GREAT! A lot of useful stuff there and the sample editor is very easy to use. Mellotron sounds are so cool...
Bear in mind that the Keyboard is mono timbral - so only one sound can be played at once.
What could be better?
In the effect section there is only a rate knob, so you can't control the amount. I hope, they will allow to change the amount by using the shift knob in a software update.
You can't import the old *.nsp format. One of my favorite Grands was the StudioGrand XL Yam C7 close v2.1
Also, you can't edit the sample libraries from Clavia. I'd like the ability to map 2 sounds to different key ranges, like having a keyboard split. I can do that with my own samples though.
If you have any questions about the E3, ask me!

Re: Got me a Nord Electro 3!
Hi NE3 User,
just a simple question i cant find on the internet.
With the latest 5.00 update you now can download the sounds
in 3 different ways. (small - medium - big)
But the ne3 doesnt support the string resonance so i can download
just the small version without lost of quality?
or
is there a different between small and big version? i cant hear nothing (because of this string resonance)
on clavia is written:
Large versions have the pedal-down String Resonance samples all across the keyboard, providing you with the fullest of sounds, but also the largest size.
Small The Medium versions have pedal-down String Resonance samples in the important middle region of the range, but omit these in the lowest and the highest areas. This gives you a good ratio of functionality and size.
Small Sml is the version that uses the least amount of space in the piano memory, but still carry a big and powerful punch. This version does not contain any String Resonance samples at all. If an Sml piano is selected in the Nord unit, the String Resonance feature (if applicable) will be disabled.
thx for comments

Re: Got me a Nord Electro 3!
Hi,
it is corret with the String Resonance feature. However, it is not to b mixed up with Pedal down samples. IIRC, the small samples don't contain ANY pedal down samples.
Personally, I found this to be a no-go at least when playing more Jazz or Classical music. String Resonance is oin top of that and as mentioned only availale to EX owners. But the pedal down samples alone justify using the MEDIUM SIZE samples IMHO.

Re: Got me a Nord Electro 3!
Sorry for the late reply - I haven't been around for quite some time...
Johannes is right.
I always use the "large" piano files one my Electro because the pedal down samples are very important to me. It feels more real, sounds better and makes me play better.
You can try loading the "small", "medium", and "large" libraries of the same piano at the same time to compare them. If it doesn't make a difference to you, go for the smaller version!

Re: Got me a Nord Electro 3!
Hi, I have a Nord stage, two in fact, one for gigs, a 76, one permanently set up at home, an 88. You may guess from this that I quite like them. However compared to my hammond XK1 the organ is so weak in a gigging situation. Does anyone know if the organ section of the electro 3 is the same as the stage or is it of a higher quality. In which case I might have to have 3 nords.

Re: Got me a Nord Electro 3!
The organ in the NE3 is the same organ as the Nord C1. So it is better than the Nord Stage's organ.

Are you sure? The Electro 3 was made before the C2, so if that should be true, they made the engine for the Electro 3 and then just copied it to the C2, which in my mind would not make sence.
Also here is a quote from the Electro 3 page:
The rotary speaker emulator originates from the award winning Nord C1 Combo Organ, with its acclaimed sound quality. This rotary speaker emulator incorporates the acoustic variations that occur when a physical speaker spreads the sound in a room, providing the full experience of when the air is moved around.

Re: Got me a Nord Electro 3!
I own both a Nord C2 and a Electro 3 and I can tell you the organ section in the Electro 3 sounds very different to the C2. I think it is mainly the rotary simulator which makes the difference however even when you change to the old simulator on the C2 it still sounds quite different. The C2's sound is definitely an improvement on the organ section of the Electro 3.

I think nonetheless, that the Electro 3 organ is far better than the one on Nord Stage. Also the Leslie sim.
