Can non-piano and/or non-Nord samples (maybe Roland D-50 ones) be loaded into the piano side of a Nord Electro 5?

What about non-Nord samples loading into the synth sample section? Can that be done?

Thanks for any info.

Only Nord Piano files can go in the Piano side. There is no getting around that.

The only way to get other samples (non-Nord) into the synth sample section is by importing .WAV files (that you created by sampling a D50 for example) into the Nord Sample editor to create the required .NSMP files the Nord needs to load them. There are many tutorials on this forum on doing that if you search for them.

No.

Yes. Single velocity samples only.

But if you're into D50 sounds, also look at adding a Roland D-05 module, which you can trigger from the Nord, either over the full range of the keyboard, or as just on the top region of a split.

thanks, so this means you can't use ANY piano samples except for the default Nords ones (or the ones from their sample library website)

why is this? Nord have not released the software tool?

You can use other piano samples as single-layers in NSMP format, there are some on this forum. As to why they have not released the ability to create piano section samples, that is down to marketing. It is a closed proprietary system, why would they open that up to competition? It's how they sell keyboards.

And Nord has a very large library of high quality pianos to choose from, that gets added to from time to time.

Third party NSMP e-pianos that I have found on this forum are quite decent actually, even though they are single-layer.

Yeah I was just thinking I could put some of the free space on the piano side of things to good use, but I guess not!

I would rather have the 1GB for synth samples and the 256MB for pianos!

though I guess I am using it in an unconventional way... pianos wasn't a reason I bought it.
