I have a midi issue I wonder if anyone might be able to help with:
I want to introduce a 2nd keyboard [korg 01w] . At the moment I have the Nord Stage 3, audio outputs and USB midi, all working fine, recording both audio and midi.
As the Korg 01w only has 5 pin midi ports , I used that to link up to the Nord then thru the USB into the Apollo, it records audio and midi perfectly fine, but......
it won't play back the midi information to play the 01W a second time. Which means if I edit a note for example, I cannot seem to 're record' it onto the audio.
[I'm plugged into the Korg 01w Audio Outputs Left and Right, going into the Apollo]
any clues?

Re: 3rd party midi?
Did you turn on Extern MIDI Soft Thru? (Remember, in this case, you need the 5 pin MIDI Out of the Nord to act as a Thru, not an Out, since the MIDI is being generated by something coming into the Nord and not by the Nord itself.)

Re: 3rd party midi?
I pressed Shift + Extern, and switched the Global Soft Through to "on", but still not workin. The 5 pin midi lead is going from Nord Midi Out to Korg Midi In.
Is there anything else I should do? [in the Extern pages 1-9 for example?]

You need to enable EXT, and make sure everything is on the appropriate MIDI channel. From the manual:
-------------------------------
Extern Section and MIDI re-routing
When an external device transmits MIDI notes to the Stage 2 and the Extern section is activated on the Stage 2, those incoming MIDI notes can be re-routed to the MIDI Output of the Stage 2, on the MIDI channel that is set for the Extern section This allows you to control one external device from another external device The incoming notes have to be on the same MIDI channels as set in the Stage 2 for the Dual Kb, the Slot A or Slot B MIDI channel setting or the Global MIDI channel setting The Extern menu setting Soft Thru must also be “On”
--------------------------------
and also...
---------------------------------
Extern MIDI Soft Thru
Incoming MIDI that matches the Global or Slot A/B channels can be re-routed on the Extern channel to the Stage 2’s MIDI OUT jack or the USB interface, if the Extern section is active on the current Program This setting determines if this re-routing should apply or not
