All these instruments are programmable microprocessors, so it could be a different, more efficient software architecture running on more or less the same hw. Let's agree that we just do not know.
True, but I think it's a pretty safe bet that the seamless transitions required new hardware. It's one of the most substantial changes in functionality. I also remember reading (whether true or not?) that the additional hardware capability could have been used for either a third panel OR seamless transition between the two, and they chose the latter.

I agree. But if they supported the new format, and the new format does indeed include default envelope settings for samples, that would be a huge benefit for an Electro, as I discussed at http://www.norduserforum.com/post97160.html#p97160

Yes, I have an original NE too - that's what I was thinking of.
That was possible because the underlying HW was the same, which is probably not the case for NE6 vs 5
I'm happy with the NE5D-73 I just bought a few weeks ago. It' s portable and gives me the high-quality B3, AP, EP, and clav sounds I need for the blues / old-school soul gigs I typically do. The only feature I might want to trickle down from the new NE6 would be the dual organ mode which would allow me to unload my Hammond Sk1 and / or Sk2

Live Keyboards: Nord 5D-73, Kurzweil SP4-7, Hammond Sk1, Yamaha MX88, Numa Compact 2x, Casio PX330
Amps: QSC K12, Yamaha DBR10, JBL 5151xt (2)
Just for my understanding: does the new dual organ mode bring any new functionality to the board except displaying two drawbar sets simultaneously? Is it three part multi timbral in the sense that it can play the bass pedal plus two manuals? Otherwise I can see no reason to ditch the Hammonds.
