Lead A1 not transmitting CC#1 when in wheel mode L2

Postby artofmoog » 31 Jan 2018, 17:44

Could any Lead A1 (keyboard version) users help me out with a reality check?

I've found what I think must be a bug, to do with MIDI CC#1 transmission from the mod wheel. If I have System setting 5 (Wheel mode) set to 'L1' (Morph & Vibrato), then everything works as expected. Local sounds respond to the wheel, and CC#1 is transmitted via DIN and USB MIDI. But if I set the Wheel mode to 'L2' (Vibrato), local sounds behave as expected, but CC#1 is no longer transmitted via MIDI. Obviously I haven't changed any MIDI settings (like 2. CC Mode, which is on Send and Receive) in the meantime. And I'm using 1.34 firmware.

I can't think of a reason why it would be advantageous to kill CC#1 via MIDI for that one particular setting. It'd be a really weird mix-up of local and controller-type behaviour, and in any case nothing else (like CC transmission from the knobs) is affected in a similar way.

Thanks a lot -

Robin

Looking at the MIDI Implementation in the A1 manual I see:

  • Volume Pedal (transmits if enabled as Volume in System menu) CC#7
  • Ctrl Pedal (transmits if enabled as Morph in System menu) CC#11
  • Mod Wheel CC#1

makes me think that maybe they forgot to write it, but what they say about the CtrlPedal applies to the MW too?

Thanks for the reply. I saw that too. To my mind, the wheel should transmit CC#1 all the time, regardless of any other setting. And strange there's a setting where it transmits NOTHING. But maybe there is a logic to it that I'm not seeing.

In the meantime, Sound Technology in the UK have been very helpful and are looking into it. I'll post again if I find out any more.

 I agree, I also see no reason for not sending the CC#1 (and also CC#11 for the pedal) regardless it is being used for the Morph or not. Let us know if any new finding

I got a reply from Nord on this, via Sound Tech (great support...). They recreated and acknowledged the issue and say they do regard it as a bug. A fix could be issued, but no promises as to when.

Fair enough - it'd be great if they can fix it eventually, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
