Hi,
I have used most of the time for the past 10 years the samples from Nord, Roland XV5080 (With Extra SRX cards...) and Proteus 2000 (Extra cards as well). Everyone is talking about current Yamaha Motif/Montage samples, Roland Supernatural and Kork Kronos, and Kurzweil...
So , on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being "astonishing/you really think it's a the instrument playing" and 1 being "barely usefull in a live context because sounding too much "Pouet/pouet", how would you rate the samples from the following brands:
1) Roland current Supernatural
2) Old Roland like XV5080
3) Korg Kronos
4) Yamaha Motif/Montage
5) Nord samples
6) Emu Proteus 2000
7) Kurzweil
Maybe you might think that some "brass" samples from one brand are 8 but the " Strings" samples from the same brand are just 6, so, if you think so, do not hesitate to post your differences....

I like potatoes.
The Nord giveth; the Nord taketh away…

Re: How would you rate Nord samples versus others
The most important thing is if you like how it’s sound, use them..
I had Roland, kurzweil, Yamaha , korg, and Nord...
I will have time to try other brands
Happy holidays
Regards

Re: How would you rate Nord samples versus others
For wine, it could be easy if you think on an average...Or this way, the two or 3 best/most famous wine in Italie, usually, are not considered at the same level as the 3 best BORDEAUX or Bourgogne in France...And if you have a knowledge about wine you could compare them with the Australian wines, Chile wines and Argentina wines....So, for a French guy, about wine, this question makes a lot of sense....Even if you compare some specific wines from specific countries/Province....
I'm assuming what make senses about wine could be, for people who like wines and have a good knowledgebe, the same as Beer for other people....
So, I was just asking your feeling, your perception....And because a lot of people have tried Nord, Recent Yamahas and Korgs, they could "rate it", even by type of sound....
So, my perception, but it's biased because I have never spent time with other samples than the ones that I was talking about:
If we say that the big libraries are 10, Kronos and Montage being 9, 9 for Brass for Montage and Orchestra Samples being 9 for Korg Kronos, Roland being very famous for strings, So, Strings ensemble from Roland could get a 8/9? I don't know....Then Nord, being Seven because no multilayered? Even 5/6?
And then, old fashion samples from 10 years old, like the Proteus or the XV5080, do they stand in a live setting? Or are they just 3/4? Are they just 1 and must be updated? Etc....
What I mean is, because I have tested a lot of different wines all over the world, and tasting them in the countries I visited, some of you could have tried different keyboards and then, being able to "rate" them...
Do we agree that the Nord Pianos can hold really well, compared to the big libraries? So, my question was the same but for samples only...
But I can understand that my question could be surprising, so, no worries if you don't have an opinion/idea about it...
