Piano sample transfer time

Postby mattbow1990 » 27 Oct 2017, 01:23

Hello, just got a Electro 5D yesterday, and was curious how long it should be taking to load XL pianos onto the board. Took about 10+ minutes. Is that normal? Or is my USB cable out of date? Using a Macbook Pro with Sierra.

Thanks!

On the Stage 3 with a Suface Pro 3, it took me 6 minutes to upload the 199MB Royal Grand 3D XL from the Stage to the Surface, and about 3 minutes to download the 99MB Royal Grand 3D Lrg from the Surface to the Stage. The Surface Pro 3 has USB 3.0 port and I used the new Nord Sound Manager v7.10.

Yes, it's not instantaneous, it takes a few minutes.
And a full backup will take about an hour.
Nothing to worry about, it's just the way it works.

Yeah, the biggies take a while. There's no loading during a performance, you should plan ahead for what you might need, given your setlist for a specific evening.

I am doing a full backup of the patches right now, and yes, it uses about an hour. The file is approximately 810Mb. But I still don't understand why it has to be that sloooow..? Anyone?

Unlike other kinds of flash storage, the NOR flash storage used in the Nords has the advantage of being accessible as if it were real RAM, while also being non-volatile (unlike regular RAM which is wiped clean every time it's powered down). The downside is that write speeds are very slow.

My macbook has pretty much bit the dust, and I've gone back to windows. My new computer has USB 3.0 on it. Was curious if anyone knows if the USB port on the Nord Electro 5D is 3.0? I really like the factory setup, but am thinking about experimenting with some different piano sounds, particularly the Steinway samples. Really loving the Grand Lady D, and planning on trying out the others this evening. Thanks!
