Static & Noise on Electro 5D 61 key Midi OUT?

Postby clarkprice » 09 Nov 2017, 04:32

Midi Out noise problem. Help.

I get loud sputtering static and noise on my Electro 5D 61 when the Midi OUT has a midi cable in it.

When I remove the midi cable from the MIDI OUT ? - it stops.

This noise is also part of the audio signal - which is bad.

Does anyone have an answer or experience with fixing this problem ?

Thanks good folks ! Appreciated if anyone has an answer here.

cheers !

Hi Clark,

The source of this noise probably comes from some other connection which is apparently borrowing the midi line's ground for a ground loop of some sort. Midi connections by definition are opto-isolated. Do you have the midi connection and audio connections going to the same device? Computer audio interface? Have you tried using the USB connection for midi?

Bless, Pablo

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I'm using a single midi to USB connector.

So no I don't "think" its the same devise. My set up is an mac book pro running logic. A Presonus Fire Project is my interface. I don't use the midi connections on the Presonus at all.

I'm using a single Midi to USB connector - UMO it's called I believe.. - blue plastic oval with lights showing in and out status.

The USB end is connected to a hub that goes to my Macbook.

I have the Nord L and R audio going to a DI to mixing console. I then take the direct out from the inserts to the Fire Project.

Does this help ? I use the same set up for a Roland XP-30 and there is no noise when I track it.

Thank you Pablo. Any more thoughts I truly appreciated friend !

Hi,
do you have a ground lift switch in your DI-Box? Try this, helps for me. You can also try simply another MIDI-cable (I also realized enormous differences in USB-cables, so maybe a change of that cable can help as well) or remove the ground of it (unfortunately most cables today have these welded jacks, maybe you can buy one from an electronis shop and exchange this. There are lots of webpages which explain the connections, so this should not be too much of a problem.

PS: Why are you not only using your usb-cable and have this adapter USB/MIDI???
