Pre-Sales Question:
My son has a Yamaha electric keyboard with fully-weighted keys. According to him it also has full MIDI support as well.
Wondering if we could purchase a Nord Electro 5D and control it from the Yamaha when he wants fully weighted keys? Also, if this is possible, is it possible to assign an Organ to the Nord keyboard and a Piano to the Yamaha so that if set up in a Dual Stack for shows, he can quickly switch between them?
Thanks

Re: A Quick and Simple Question?
Basically what you'd do is :
On the Electro :
Assign the LOWER PART as ORGAN.
Assign UPPER PART as Piano.
Activate the KBD SPLIT button.
Set the 'split point' to 'upper receive'
In MIDI settings, set Upper receive channel to whatever channel the Yamaha is transmitting on.
If the yamaha defaults to transmitting on channel 1, you may want to change this on the Yamaha. I think it will need to be a different channel to the 'global channel' of the Electro.
You may need to fiddle around with the channels a bit to get the right combination. Its easy though.
Check out the manual too that you can download, it has quite a clear explanation too.

Re: A Quick and Simple Question?
So this will affect the entire keyboard on both the Nord and the Yamaha (which is 88 keys and why attempting this).
Thanks

Re: A Quick and Simple Question?
I started following ACCORDIONMAN'S instructions, was able to get into the MIDI settings menu to select "Upper Receive", but the KBD SPLIT settings do not show anything about "Upper Receive." When I twiddle the knob it just moves from one split point to another. I have read and re-read the manual - what am I missing? Thanks for your help.

Go into MIDI setting and set 'Channel Upper Split' to a channel number rather than OFF. I think that might be the missing step!
Then try the KB SPLIT again, this time you should see an extra option of 'Upper Receive'

Re: A Quick and Simple Question?
Implemented, after some tweaking.
It would not work until I set my MIDI 88 to transmit on Channel 2. The NE5 has it general input set on 1, and the upper split did not play anywhere until that change was made. Then, presto, I have an organ on the NE5 and any piano I want to select on my Yamaha P-255 keyboard.
I set this up for one of my Live settings. For the other two to work from my 88, I had to make sure they were set up as the upper voice. I imagine that once you set this up, any splits will be played the same, with the lower voice on the NE5 and the upper voice, whatever it is, played on the MIDI connected board. That suits me, but creates a caution for others. Changing it back would be a lot of menus, and I cannot see anyone doing that in mid-gig.
Thanks one more time Accordionman. This set up suits me fine.
