Are you sure that Nord uses velocity sensitive filters on their pianos? I was not aware of that...

You are right. I think that they do not.

But still all real time parameters apply to both layers, when they are in one sample. Think for example of release time. A pad with long release time will not be possible, when the piano voice should be stopped at key release.

However, I am looking forward to seeing high quality layer sounds form Nord. They will find a technology that will work.

Ah, good point — release is the tricky issue.

Do the .npno sounds include extra samples for the release stage? I wonder. They'd need to in order to get the character of the sampled pads right, as you say.

I fail to understand how layering is anything new. I've been doing it since the Stage EX. There are two slots, and both can be on at once. I put a different piano in each, and set different dynamics for each. I then adjust the EQ and balance between the two so they blend. It's a bit of time and work to get it right, but the result is a very full and expressive piano that, for my taste, is more realistic and has more of a piano "feel" than any single stock sample they have.

Nothing new, but it saves you one slot, so instead of 2 you can an extra npno sound in the other slot.

Also, as far as I can see, this category is not for custom layers, but for classic sounds that already incorporate layers and are difficult to replicate with the Nord synths.

Digi Grand 2 are great MKS-20 grand samples!

I must be missing something. They could have created layered piano sounds for any of the pianos. Unless it's just another slot to store them in, like acoustic piano, upright piano, electric piano, ... I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

I think the wait is over! Check out the Nord site...

Other than freeing up an instrument, I wouldn't think this buys you anything you couldn't do layering the old fashioned way. Of course, i have yet to enjoy that new nord stage 3 smell.

3 and 4 piano layers might be interesting (a layered npno in each slot).
