Hm... this part caught my eyes. What do you mean by switching extern completely off -- not sure I follow this entirely?

The way I've set it up here is to disable the global zone. When I press the extern on/off, it either sends note data or it doesn't (for that particular panel). So if I have extern off (for both panels) it won't send anything at all on any channel (except for the program change/volume/CC you've possibly set it up to send).

I've understood that yours sends note data even if extern is off for both panels, but maybe I misunderstood that part? I thought the idea was that it should just switch your external units to whatever you've specified for that particular program but not play any data?

Since we're based in the same country, maybe a phone call would be faster to double-check/compare settings? Just PM me in case.

You just saved my day. It works as you explain in your setup. Don't know why I hadn't checked the midi transmission with extern switched off :?
We seem to have misunderstood each other when it comes to what is meant by switching extern off.

According to manual p. 41, you can switch extern on/off by pressing once on the on/off button located at the top of the section. This is indicated by no LEDs turned on in that section and what I mean by completely off. However, you should also be able to turn on the extern section but at the same time switch all zones off using shift and on/off button:
NON-KEYBOARD Extern Setup
In addition to the regular keyboard zones, there is an extra option - selected the same way as regular keyboard zones - that doesn’t assign the Extern section to the internal keyboard at all, signified by all KB ZONE LEDs being off for the Extern section. However, all other External features are still active, such as the Pitch Stick and the Parameter knob. This is useful when you want to control external equipment with no need for MIDI keyboard messages. (manual p. 41)
This is indicated by all green LEDs off but the red LEDs still on. This is the mode I have been trying to get to work. As I understand the manual, the Stage with all extern zones off, should not send out note data, but it does. Do I misunderstand the manual?

Nevertheless, entering Program change in the extern section menu and switching off the extern section, does what I was looking for, but I still don't understand the non-keyboard extern setup from the manual then.

Anyway can't thank you enough for helping out and sticking with me despite my ignorance of not monitoring MIDI with extern switched off :thanks:

Okay maybe I was a bit too quick to celebrate. I've now tried to set up different programs on the stage to send out different program change messages, e.g. one send MSB 87, LSB 0, PC 16, while another sends MSB 87, LSB 66, PC 8. This works when I set it up, but after switching back and forth between the two and other random programs, the first program starts sending MSB 87, LSB, 0, PC 8. I checked this with midi monitor. In other words it changes bank but the program change number all of a sudden becomes the same. If I then go into extern menu settings, the settings are correct (still PC 16) and I can get it working again if I turn the dial to another PC number, but only until I start switching to and from other programs.

Seems the Midi implementation is still a little buggy or have I missed something

Maybe you missed *saving* the program that you had set up?

Nope it is saved, and the settings are correct even though the MIDI that is sent is incorrect

I do not know how they implement the seamless transition with external midi changes...
When you change a program, will the external midi new parameters are sent right away along with the existing midi parameters...

If you set the seamless transition to off in these two programs, do you have the same results?

Have you choose "Send at load" in parameters when you're loading a program ?
Actual synth: Nord Modular G2 - Nord Stage 3 73 - Virus Ti2 - Peak - Prophet 6
Before: Nord Lead 3 & 4, Stage 1&2, Wave, Virus C, DSI Tetra, P12, and few others...

Just tried to switch seamless transitions off but there is no difference. I've set send on load and the Stage sends out messages but they are not the same as I've programmed.
Actually when I started the keyboard now, the two programs send out Program Change nr. 0. If I look in the extern settings, they are programmed to send MSB 87, LSB 0, PC 16 and MSB 87, LSB 66, PC 0, but when I switch to the programs after restarting they send out MSB 87, LSB 0, PC 0 and MSB 87, LSB 66, PC 0 respectively.

So the problem seems to be that the Stage messes up the PC value, while the MSB and LSB are sent correctly.

I reproduced this and added it to the bug list.

The values for Program Change Number, CC Value and Volume value are incorrect. They always send out whatever last value was stored in that particular location (for either panel). After a reboot it sends out 0.

So it's another bug.
