Stage 88EX and MainStage - programme changes

Postby gordy boy » 10 May 2017, 20:28

hey guys ;-)

has anyone figured out how to specify your own prg numbers using the Stage 88EX with Mainstage? I've only managed to align Mainstage patch numbers with the pre-existing patch numbers on the Nord, but there seems to be no facility for setting custom prg numbers within the patch on the Nord. Is this correct?

Use the Extern section to send Program Changes to Mainstage

Hi,

I know that the Nord Stage 2 has designated program change numbers for each program.
As shown in the attached sheet, you can see what program change number is used for which Nord program.

As said: I'm not sure if this is the same for Nord Stage (classic).

This is what the documentation says:

So next question is: do you want to send program changes from the Nord to Mainstage or from Mainstage to the Nord?

thanks for your help Max Piano & Berretje.

my main intention is to send patch changes to MS as I move through the Nord patches on a gig, so sending via the external section is going to be too long-winded.

I've already figured out that there are designated patch numbers (thanks for the chart) & I've assigned these to my MainStage patches as a stopgap, but was hoping there might be a deeper way of assigning the prg changes to numbers that I want - in the way that most mother keyboards do (my old Roland RD700 for instance, which ironically I sold to buy the Stage 2). Seems I may be out of luck...

The answer is the Extern Section, if you want NS to be teh master source of Program Changes; use that and not the Global Channel to communicate from NS to Mainstage (i.e. treat Mainstage as you would do with an expander)

Download and read the Nord Stage MIDI Tutorial (from this site's Download section) and all will be clearer.

Why do you find it long winded? I don't know how it could possibly be any more efficient on the Roland, what was different? I mean, if you want a patch to send out a specific Program Change when you call it up, you have to enter that desired program patch into the Program, that would be true whether your board is a Nord or a Roland, right? Or am I still misunderstanding what it is you're trying to do?
