I've spent a while playing around with my L4 trying to make some decent bass patches, but I find it hard to get much punch or presence out of them.
Has anybody else found this, and is there a solution? What about EQ/amp sim pedals?
Cheers!

Re: Lead 4 -- Bass patches lack punch
Don't expect huge bass sound from NL4 but you can create some nice one, you have to twists some knobs. If i have to use bass from NL i run it through moog MF-101 and add a little bit of its drive knob.

Re: Lead 4 -- Bass patches lack punch
You need a Moog for Bass
There are some great Moog sample packs on Ebay for only £250 100's of huge big fat basses.
You can achieve big fat basses on the Nord lead 1 if you layer a few sounds.
Make a nice sub Bass,
the make a driving bass sound.
The n a full warm bass sound
Mix the 3 together and you can get good enough.

Re: Lead 4 -- Bass patches lack punch
It's also my impression sometimes that especially the saw's fundamentals are a bit weaker. Maybe that is intentional as we don't have a seperate hp filter to get low end weight out of a heavily layered sound.
EQ bass up works for me usually because the frequencies are there.
If EQ is not an option, layering a sine (or tri) wave at 16' gives a low end boost to a saw for example.

Re: Lead 4 -- Bass patches lack punch
When I had a Lead 4 I would always use it for bass patches. I'd use a square wave in mono and mix in some FM from OSC2 then use the compressor in the FX section. Very FM DX100 solid type bass.

Hey all,
i dont know your monitoring/speaker situation, but with the different filtertypes@Lead4, i never had the problem of less punch or presence.
And after all, you got the unisono function for fattening your sounds. It's even more a question of programming the right sound. The Lead4 has
the possibilities to make deep&dark basses, i've tried that. And had fun.

Re: Lead 4 -- Bass patches lack punch
NL4 is perfectly capable of providing punchy basses. In my view, using Unison or Multi mode there is like shooting yourself in the foot. Even doubling up the same voice on another slot, slightly detuned (or not) will ruin the sound. You get this slow phasing action that results in unevenness in audio output.

So you are happy with your low pass filter? I was considering getting one of those to fatten up the synth section of my NS2
