New NE 5D 61 owner. Trying to use an M-Audio midi keyboard controller as an upper manual for the organ. Everything is connected up. The M-Audio is clearly sending and the NE 5D is clearly receiving & responding to commands ie... generating tones as expected when M-Audio keys are pressed. I'd like to take the next step to "teach" the NE 5D to respond to the sliders on the M-Audio to adjust the upper draw bar settings of the NE 5D organ. I have searched the forums and read every piece of documentation I can find but I am finding nothing about how to get the NE 5D to "learn" the commands that the M-Audio sends when its sliders are moving.
Can anybody tell me if the NE 5D is capable of "learning" Midi commands in this fashion?

Re: Electro 5D Midi Learn ???
Nope. But you should be able to do it the other way around. That is, instead of teaching the Nord to recognize the M-Audio sliders, look into teaching the M-Audio how to send what the Nord wants to see. You didn't say what model you had, but you can probably set the sliders in the M-Audio to send out the MIDI commands that the Nord responds to for drawbar control. According to the Nord manual, the 9 drawbars are CC 16 through 24, so if you can set the M-Audio to send those (on the appropriate channel), you should be all set.

Re: Electro 5D Midi Learn ???
Thank you anotherscott. I figured that was going to be the case and I am able to program the M-Audio as you've suggested. Unfortunately the M-Audio reverts to its default settings after each power cycle. You've answered my original question regardless.
Regarding CC 16 through 24 and the setup I've described... ideally the M-Audio sliders could be used to control the upper drawbar settings and the NE 5D's sliders the lower drawbar settings. It appears, however, that CC 16 through 24 provide for a remote control of the same settings the NE 5D sliders are currently controlling according to PRESET1/LO(BASS) vs PRESET2/UPPER setting. Are there other CC commands available to independently control the upper settings leaving the lower to be controlled independently by the NE 5D?

I'd be surprised if the M-Audio didn't have a Save function that allowed you to save and recall your settings. What model M-Audio board is this?

I've never tried it, but I assume that you need go to into the MIDI menu and set Channel Upper Rcv to some channel other than what Lower Rcv or Global are set to, and then set your M-Audio to transit on that channel. Then the M-Audio's controls should affect the Upper part.

Which M-Audio (model) do you own?

It is an older M-Audio Radium 61. It is a very simple controller with 8 sliders and 8 knobs.

There has been another post, that this is not possible. Internal and external drawbars always control the same preset. Unfortunately.

According to the specifications and manual, it can store 16 different Controllers configurations (presets) of which the first 9 only are Factory, so you should be able to create one for the NE.

maxpiano - Thank you for the head's up. It sounds as if others have had the same idea. Maybe Nord is paying attention to these forums and will consider enabling this in the future.
voodoo - You may be on to something I've missed in the Radium manual. I will see if I can get the Nord slider configs to stick through a power cycle on a different Radium preset above #9.
