How can a Program(Organ) sound over another program (Piano)?

Postby Peter Mojzisik » 07 Apr 2017, 18:58

Hello everybody. I am in a real need. Tomorrow we have a concert with our band,
and I have recently bought NORD STAGE 2 EX 88. However,
there is one thing I am not able to do and need to do it this evening.

QUESTION/SCENARIO:

I have ORGAN program (sound) selected, I play a chord, I am still holding the chord,
during that I switch the program to PIANO and I need to have the ORGAN still sounded
while I am holding the keys. This function is really a common thing for any YAMAHA STAGE PIANOs (I've used before)
but here, on NORD, when I switch between the programs the previous program is CUT IMMIDIATLEY, no matter if I still hold the keys,
or hold the pedal... this is really bad when I need to crossfade/overlap the sounds within a song smoothly...

Can please someone give any advice or point me where can I have the answer?
Manual is what I read, but I did not see there any help...

Thanks lot lot lot!!

Peter

Simple answer: You can't... unless you have the new Nord Stage 3 :-)
But it will only be out as of July.

Nord Stage 2 EX cuts the sound whenchanging program.

Solution:
Organ on A slot.
Piano on B Slot.

Going from A slot to B slot doesn't cut the sound.
There you go.

No way!!! :) First of all thanks for the reply!
And for second: whyyyyyyy????? :D :D
It is really the worst timing from my side! I never knew this when buying it,
and if I waited just 3 more months, just 3 more!!! Gosh!

Well... let's try the slots... that is at least something, and again, thanks for reply!

BTW,

If your left hand is holding the chords and you use your right hand only for piano... look for the split function. All on one slot then.
But if you need full keyboard for organ THEN full keyboard for piano, then slot A slot B is your only solution.

You are really very helpfull and I do not know how else to thank you, but just to thank you :) Anyway... The Slots seem to be the half solution here,
and indeed it is the best I can have so I take it. However I am confused about one thing. I am not sure how to set following scenario:

PRESSED SLOT A - gives me PIANO sound, since that bank and that program is chosen (this is ok, I like it, but now)
CHANGE TO SLOT B - How will I put there EG MELLOTRON considering that when I press MELLOTRON anytime, it simply IS BY DESIGN with SLOT A?
Got my point? When I do just basic thing as searching throu the programms, I noticed that some of them are somehow assigned for SLOT A and some of them are assigned for SLOT B... by design: the slot switches automatically when I switch the programm.
I have already leart from the manual that you can copy any setting from one Slot to another, but I am not sure this is what would help here...

ALSO... I was considering to use another option> spliting the keyboard into 3 parts -> as simple as cake,
but, I noticed that I most likely cannot have two different porgrams from ONE SECTION (ORGAN SECTION, PIANO SECTION, SYNTH SECTION) at the same time on the split keyboard. I cannot have e.g. this:

LO - PIANO
UP - MELOTRONE
HIGH - E PIANO

Or can I but am I just not clever enough yet??
This would solve my problem, since I could most likely also adjust the octave settings (move the octaves within one split)...

Gosh, a lot of questions for you, but you are the saviour here... :)

THanks

You can have those 3 sounds in a split and even using a single Slot, because they use 3 distinct sections (Mellotron uses the Synth).

To the other question, you are missing a key concept of NS: every Program includes both slots, even if one only is active, so you cannot copy a Program into a single slot but ... you can copy slots between different programs (keep a slot button pressed and browse for the Program/Slot you want to copy from). ;)

Last not least... I recommend you read the manual very carefully and try what you read on the NS while you read it. :-)

PS: if you wan to thank someone (not necessarily me) for a reply, you can click the "Thanks" button on the message you want to thank for. 8-)
