Hi all,
I have tried to build a multi-sampled instrument into the Nord sample editor from a folder containing wave files which were named following the conventions stated in its manual, i.e., each filename ended with a midi note number preceded by the _ sign.
Using Single Sample Per File Assign, the sample were rightly assigned, but their root key was wrong.
To say it another way, samples were played on the right keys, but not and their right pitch.
These are not drum sounds, which means they have to be transposed with the keyboard.
Am I wrong in thinking that each samples root key should be the same as the note number mentioned in its filename?
I could of course reassign root keys manually, but I wonder if there is something wrong with the software, or if I misunderstood something.
Thank you for your help,
Best regards,
JPR

Re: Nord sample editor multi-sample root key issue
Hi,
I recognize this problem. With Nord Sample Editor v2.18 a file named PianoS_60.wav (stereo piano note) should be assigned to note C4. Instead, it is assigned to A#5. But it sounds as C4. I don't understand why the assignment goes wrong.

Re: Nord sample editor multi-sample root key issue
Dear Rob and all.
Problem solved on my side. I should have read the manual more carefully.
When you want to use single sample per file assign, the editor is not as smart as you think. You still have to tell it if you want the samples to be assigned by names or numbers, by tickking the right checkbox. In your case, as in mind, this will be "numbers".
Hope it will work for you to.
Best,
JPR

Re: Nord sample editor multi-sample root key issue
Hi JPR,
It has been some months since I worked with the editor. I tried what you said (probably did that also before), but still the same problem. My file PianoS_60.wav is assigned to A#5, not to C4, as it should. And PianoS_48.wav is assigned to A#4 instead of C3. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Nord sample editor multi-sample root key issue
I think I solved it. I tried Nord Sample Editor v2.28 and there it works OK. It is an error in v2.18 apparently. I use and old iBook G4 for sample and MIDI stuff (running OSX 10.4.11), which is not compatible with v2.28. See how to fix that ...

Re: Nord sample editor multi-sample root key issue
Hi JPR,
I did what you did and it worked with Nord Sample Editor v2.28 on my Macbook Air. It does not work with v2.18. Just take look at http://www.nordkeyboards.com/software/nord-sample-editor/nord-sample-editor-update-history and you can see that there was a fix to this problem from v2.18 to v2.20. Do you happen to have v2.20? Maybe this works on my old iBook G4. I tried to find it online, but nothing yet.
