Marimba on Lead A1

Post by rtroost »

Hi all-

I hate 'double posting' but my Im not sure anyone looks in the 'patches' section of the board where I posted this to deafening silence:
Has anyone got a Marimba-sounding patch for the NLA1 or thoughts on how to construct one? I am having a devil of a time getting
one that sounds OK and will cut through the mix. I use the NLA1 in a pub/club band and we're covering the violent femmes "Gone
Daddy Gone", for context.

I've been trying varieties of layering of FM with sine and attack noise, but little success! Patches or advice much appreciated.
Any advice really much more than gratefully appreciated!

Rens

I'm at office now - away from my A1, but I found this with Google - maybe it could be worth a try?

Marimba
OSC 1 to triangle, 100% volume
OSC 2 to triangle tuned 2 octaves up, 75% volume
OSC 2 synced? = No
Key tracking on for both
Noise off
Triangle LFO controlling OSC mix amplitude, set to 8hz, fast. Depth should be 11%.
OSC glide off, unison off, set synth to polyphonic if it will allow it.
Low pass filter cutoff set to 72% if 24db filter, 66% if 12db. Resonance at 0%, envelope off or left at default.
Amplifier settings
Attack = 0 seconds, decay = 1.66 seconds, sustain = 20%, release = 1.66 seconds.
Courtesy of Welsh's Synthesizer Cookbook! Fantastic book at a super cheap price filled with tons of synth recipes, along with the instructions on how to create your own emulations of sounds through harmonic analysis, it's $20 on Amazon.

I recommend using one of the Bell/Tines waveforms instead of the triangle ones.

B1 Inharmonic spectra of vibrating metal bars.
B2 Harmonic version of vibrating metal bars.
B3 Spectra from a vibrating bar with one fixed end.
B4 Metal marimba bar.
B5 Inharmonic spectra of tubular bells.

thanks for the posts folks! a bit late coming back. but a combination of those two posts did me:
primary osc b4
secondary osc triangle2 mix 4.4
attack 0, decay and release 2.7
short reverb
filter 7.5 keyboard 100%

spot on in the mix!!
