Hello everbody,
I got my ND1 recently. I am exploring what it can do - I love it - also finding limitations that the first box in this famous row has.
Nevertheless I do not get pissed of those limitations - I always try to juice from the mashine as much as possible - I somehow justify my self to own that gear. This one is kind of simple piece of instrument that is why I started to wander:
Did anyone manage to hack the ND midi interface? I was thinking about controlling anything more that program real time.
Another idea - there is DEMO sequence inside.. (not sure what is the original purpose - probably to check those presets? It gives nice possibility to check the velocity range - as the only feature making the sound of one channel really variable in real-time.. I guess it is even made for this reason, cause the velocity of the channels in the DEMO is changing a lot. It is possible to listen by pressing the TRIGGER - and changing velocity level, but..well.. thats not so great to see bigger picture of what you created.)
I dont really know how that works, but I guess somewhere inside is saved sequence of MIDI notes played all over (or now I think - maybe it is not so easy - as far as I can change MIDI representation of each channel and the DEMO stil goes..). Well... if it is possible to work with this - it would make ND a little bit autonomous machine!
And last thing - maybe if somebody has technical sheet, I would appreciate that greatly.
Thanks, keep doing it, regards Petr..

Re: NORD DRUM 1 - hack?
Hi,
The Nord drum 1 may be limited in some ways, but I think it sounds awesome!
The Nord drum is a digital instrument, and it's functionality is mostly in the programming (operating system) and limited by the hardware & processing power I guess. I don't know much about programming, let alone hacking. For starters, Nord won't be sharing the code on Github. And I've never seen schematics of any Nord instrument on the net, it's not published by them. So, with little to start with, it must be quite a challenge to program an alternative OS. The processor might not even be powerful enough to do things like CC control as you suggest.
I think your ideas are nice, but I doubt if there is anyone able to hack the ND1
Cheers,
Albert
