i think all np3 or all np3 can produce that noise sound, if you release very quickly. It is not a problem, cause it does not come in normal playing... What do you think ?

Depends what you call " normal playing". Try playing the intro to Billy Joel's " Prelude- Angry Young Man". Very rapid single note repetitions. If this triggers knocking or clacking noises on the NP3, I could see how this could disturb some pianists. You would not experience this on an acoustic instrument.

lordy - if you heard how LOUD mine made noise on C5, you would agree with me it is not normal and you too would loose concentration while playing soft passages. After a while it made the loud noise even while I played softly. Nord needs to fix this and I welcome them to just give us an option to send us the replacement parts. I can do the work myself.

Having said that, still no issue since my fix.

I understand, and i hope Nord will do something for you, a kit for self-repairing could be a solution.

To be honest all of my white keys have the loud knocking sound on quick release. At first I was trying to ignore it, but it is pretty annoying. I'm almost tempted to sell it. The major problem is that I love the flexibility and the sound! I even like the overall feel of the action, just not the noise. It's funny because the noise of the action as you push a key down is totally fine, it's just as you release the keys the noise becomes distracting. I have a hard time playing it home with headphones and may have to break the bank and get something else when I want to practice at night. I may have to part with my NP3 because I can't afford to buy two digital pianos.

The key shim option is interesting, but I feel like I would want a permanent fix like more damping material added to the action.

This reminds me of the numerous Korg SV1 and Kronos problems with regard to action that sprung up with the early Kronos and has plagued the SV1 throughout its history.

Maybe for an $800-1200 DP I'd cut it some slack but sorry - a 3K keyboard doesn't get a pass in my book. You wonder what's going on - they had a 9 months gap from the time they previewed it at NAMM last year till when they became available around Sept. in the US. Plenty of time to iron out any bugs.

I've played it , I like it. If I had the expendable dough to get something with a different flavor then the CP4, I'd probably get one just for fun.

Sorry to hear of all the problems everyone seems to be having. That's the worst to wait with great anticipation for something to come out (practically all of '16), pay a premium price for it and then after a short time (jeez if it's problematic now in basically new condition, I'd be scared to know how it's going to feel a year or even two down the road) , the specific area that noticeably most improved the entire playing experience, that EVERYONE complained about, is screwing up. That's just not right. :(

Hey Dave it's always good to hear your input. Everything you said is on the money! I'm at a crossroad with my NP3 right now. Part of me is saying sell it and loose a couple of hundred bucks. Then wait and see if Roland release an RD900 with their top modeling engine and PH50 action that is smooth as butter and QUIET! Maybe even Yamaha might update their CP4 with an OS update that includes some sympathetic resonance or even a new model. After all the NAMM announcements next week I will make my decision because I've done this twice with this $3k instrument and I simply can't afford doing this run around any more! I even talked to my tech (who is Nord Ceritfied tech) and he pretty much said the action is what it is! These Fatar actions are noisier than others and you either cope with it or you don't!

Rhodie- If my stiffened felt approach fails (which I don't expect it will any time soon), I would also consider wrapping the hammer counter weight lever area (picture I attached earlier) with some shrink tubing to add some thickness to shim it.

Regardless it is an easy fix if you are willing to open up the instrument to modify it.

Thanks OG3. I will "live" with the noise playing it at home until I make my decision after NAMM. I don't want to work on it until I'm certain that I'm keeping it for good. I will update in a month. I do find that how it's positioned on the stand and in a room can ameliorate things a little. Right now I'm using a red K&M Omega stand. I suppose because all of the keys have a kncocking noise upon quick release, I can learn to deal with it. This is only at home because on stage I have no problem for obvious reasons. We'll see.

OG3 how is the Nord stage stand holding up for you with your NP3?

Hi Rhodie- That is understandable. If you do decide to work on it, here a side shot I took of the Piano3 with the front panel/side piece removed.
You can see the counter weight resting on the cushion material at the bottom. What seems to be happening is that this foam deforms easily and can't stop the counter weight from banging the bottom chassis or a brace (can't see from this angle) upon quick release of the key. If more keys start knocking on mine, I'm going to undo the entire keybed from the chassis (~10 screws and 3 ZIF connectors) and place a strip of the stiffened felt along the bottom of the counter weight. :) It's a real simple fix.

As for the Nord stand it is fantastic! I love the look too. But if you do a lot of gigs and travel often, might be a little clumsy to put together but it's real nice.
