iPad Pro 12.9'

Postby Quai34 » 08 Jan 2017, 04:44

Hi Guys,
I Run Setlist maker, Eventide H9 control apps AND Irig midi on my old Ipad 2.
Question:
Is the new largest screen really helps running more apps at the same time and be able to see them?
Is it large enough to read scores?
Could it really replace a computer?
Just let me know if you have one?
Thanks

Can an iPad replace a laptop? That's the $64,000 question. It's good for some things. I happen to like Anamoog enough that I bought an iPad Pro just to run it, and then immediately bought the Moog Model 15 app and the ARP Odyssey app to round things out. It's good for that. The multitouch is pretty expressive on the Anamoog, the other two are more hacks than anything, if you ask me, but I suppose if you ever used the real hardware they're pretty faithful reproductions; they're certainly both fun to play with. To really try to use it as an actual laptop replacement, you'll need a keyboard. I have the smart cover and I happened to have an older external Apple magic (Bluetooth) keyboard, which I use in preference to the smart cover. The smart keyboard works, but it's not a real keyboard. It's a decent cover, so I use it. I also picked up a good magnetic stand which it sits in with the Apple keyboard in front of it. It works. Is it elegant? Well, not really to me, but it is more portable and more durable than your average laptop (you *can* spill on it, for example). You can't run Ableton Live on it, so in my opinion, it's not ever going to be a laptop replacement until that's the case and I doubt Ableton will ever port Live to it...

Hi,
Thanks for your input. What about tha ability to read scores on it? is it wide enough that I could get rid of my Book?

Sure, the screen's really nice. It would be reasonable to read scores on in portrait or landscape, I think.

Maybe another point I'd make is, you should identify what apps you think you'd run on it before you buy one. Have any particular app for scoring in mind?

I use Setlist Maker, I have all the "documents" in File...And when I buy a score on Sheet music Plus or Music Note, I could use their Apps anyway...And thanks for you reply...
