Any sustain type pedal will work. I have a Roland DP2, a cheap little pedal. There is a setting in the Electro setup to tell it to latch so you can hit it once to change speeds.

I use a Yamaha FC5. I have never liked the Roland DP2, but if you happen to have one, you should certainly use it :-)

As stated, the Boss works very well.Mine came with a battery and the red light matches the red lights on the Nord electro 5 D.When using my left hand I am able to reach the rotary switch on the keyboard most of the time and can switch it that way.The Boss is a very nice small square pedal with rubber on the bottom and a high pod coming up to catch your foot with.

Yamaha FC5. Cheap and good. If it's broken you can easily fix it or just buy a new one. No need for fancy bank-breaking pedal imo.

On my E3, and on my new E5, the sustain pedal works as a rotary fast/slow switch when the Leslie is the selected speaker.
I have an Ashby keyboard mounted controller I used with my Vent; I should try it to see what happens. Hmmm,,,,,where is that thing?
