This is the right place if your topic concerns different Nord Keyboards, you are not sure which one is the right one for you, etc.

Good points, J. I will definitely consider your opinion, although, the price is starting to creep a little. Remember in Canada, the idiots in the Federal government thought we needed a 13 percent tax on everything, including air - but I digress. That raises the price VERY high.

You invoke another question - keybed feel. I'm use to the MOX8 fully weighted keys. Oddly enough, my MOX8 has a slightly lighter touch than any other Yamaha Motif 88 and CP stage piano I've played. I don't know why, but I really like the weight. I find ALL 88 key electronic keyboards require at least 30 percent more pressure to play than the equivalent acoustic piano. I've played numerous uprights, and Yamaha and Steinway baby grands. Without exception, the real pianos require far less pressure than their electronic equivalents. I can't understand why the manufacturers make their electronic versions with a much heavier touch??!!

I have a friend who plays an S90ES from Yamaha. He says after a three hour show, his wrists have pretty much had it. He owns a baby grand and can practice all day without wrist injury. He is a seasoned pro who has played with the likes of Blue Rodeo and other great bands. With all this technology, you would think keyboard companies would mimic the exact feel of a baby grand. Not yet!

Therefore, how does the semi-weighted waterfall keys of the Nord compare to say, an ordinary B3? Are the Nord semi-weighted models playable as a piano? I've heard the Nord weighted keys are quite heavy. I know it's 100 percent personal but opinions are welcome.

Well I started as a piano player yet I prefer the SW keys of the Nord. Granted I spent time with Hammond B3 as well. The S2EX 73 is heavier than the Hammond B3 but definitely lighter than a piano.
Keyboards:
  • NS2 EX Compact 73
  • Hammond SK2
  • Roland VCombo VR-09
  • Roland A800-Pro
  • Behringer Motor 49
  • Alesis Q88

My next move is to test drive both types. Thanks J.

Well, I did it! I bought the Electro 5 (73 key, 76 actually) with semi-weighted keys. The fellow at the store was a pro player and really coached me along about the weight. There was an Electro 5 semi-weighted (61 keys) and a Stage 3 piano available for try out. I found the semi-weighted keys heavy enough for my style. I was absolutely blown away by the sound!! I played it through two Bose L1 Compacts - exactly what I bring to the stage. It arrives Saturday!!!

Thanks to all who contributed their ideas to this thread :).

Thanks Maurus! Can't wait to test drive it with the band. While at the store, I even tried out the Yamaha Montage. It's a very capable board but the pianos are not up to the Nord series (IMHO) :).

I am exactly the same boat! I'm still undecided, by leaning towards the Stage 2 EX. I just wish it had the updated Leslie sim and better OLED.
