Hello all,
Is there anyway to lock the panel of the NP2 besides with local off?
Thanks in advance,
Greets,

Re: Lock panel
I don't think so. However, your mention of 'local off' sparked an idea.
Anyway, what do you need this for?

Re: Lock panel
Well, when playing wild stuff my fingers hit the buttons creating undesired effects. I think local off in a setup without other gear wild not do. Thanks for thinking along.

Re: Lock panel
Would it be an option to use an external bit of kit? Say a small box with two MIDI, a sustain pedal and a power connector?
Most likely I don't have a solution for you, but I've been messing with MIDI and electronics and this doesn't actually seem that complicated.
Enabling the panel could be done by setting Local Control to 'off' and by using a specially prepared MIDI cable, that has been modified to allow a sustain pedal to be plugged into it, so that sustain pedal (or some other kind of switch) can be used to enable or disable the panel. For the Nord it would just look like any other MIDI device.
Of course, as described above it wouldn't work; it wouldn't just disable the panel, it would also disable the keyboard so you wouldn't be able to play anymore. Not much use. But if something a bit more intelligent could be made, that makes it possible to still pass the notes being played on the keyboard but filters everything else (= MIDI generated by pressing buttons on the panel) it should work.

Re: Lock panel
I think there are a number off solution to think off, but the point is that i dont want to use any other gear. I will adress this point in the wishlist for the new OS because it seems not hard to implementable.

Re: Lock panel
Hm... first synths had loads of buttons, then digital synths lost almost all the buttons and people complained, now we get many buttons back and people complain that they press the buttons by mistake...
What about playing less "wild stuff" ?
I would prefer to see other things implemented in the OS, instead of a panel lock function.

Re: Lock panel
So in theory, if you turn local control off, and you hook a midi cable from the nord output back to the input, you would get full functionality as your controls would control the sound engine via MIDI. If that works, then you could insert a MIDI Event Processor from MIDI Solutions, and program it to filter the panel events (MIDI CC6 and/or CC8?). I know you didn't want external gear, but this is pretty small and probably powered by the Nord MIDI Out. Anyways, just an idea.

Re: Lock panel
The Nord Grand has a panel lock button. It is almost impossible to play without hitting the panel controls.
